Best ways to discipline a growing child

What are the best ways to discipline a child and be firm about it,so that the child will refrain from doing naught acts. Without spanking the child what other ways are effective?

It depends on the age of the child,if the child is still a toddler ther is no way you could discipline him I thnk it's better for the parent to be patient with time the child wil improve,,then in a case of a grown up child you can try grounding like if he loves a certain TV show you tell him no TV for now because you did this and this,next time he wil not do it because he knows that he will be grounded
