Rolling right along, we are at #48a, the "original" part of my Play it Again, Sam music series, which will be followed by a cover. This is a good one: "Sweet Jane" by The Velvet Underground. Although it would become one of Lou Reed's signature songs, "Sweet Jane" originally appeared on The Velvet Underground's 1970 album, Loaded. While it really wasn't a hit (it charted at #96 in France,) there is no denying the impact that "Sweet Jane" has had on rock and roll. The tune has been covered multiple times by some great bands (which I'll get into during the "b" portion of this,) and was ranked at #342 on Rolling Stone Magazine's list of 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. And to prove that a guitar solo need not be flashy to be great, Guitar Magazine placed the song at #81 on it's list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Solos. As for me, I'm just happy that I got to see Lou Reed perform this live. It was awesome! (Maureen Tucker did not play drums on this because she was pregnant info verified by Wikipedia)
