Okay... I was Pretty Scared For a Couple of Minutes

I had been reading about how beneficial it was to walk every single day for 30 minutes. Well, today I decided that I would go for five... to the road and back to the house. Well once I got to the road, it was such a beautiful day, I thought that I would walk to the bridge and just watch the creek beneath it. That was so relaxing, I decided that I would walk a bit further. That bit further would be to the next road with the huge church on the corner. I think that it had to be 15 minutes each way so thought that I would give it a try. I had tucked a granola bar into my pocket just in case my blood sugar decided to crash... but it didn't thankfully. What I did hear was some barking and when I looked up, there was this black dog rushing straight from his yard, straight for me. Okay, my heart was pounding. I didn't know this dog at all and he was barking for all he was worth and making straight for me. Luckily his owners were outside and they saw that he was making straight for me. His owner immediately shouted to me that he was friendly, and all I could do was hope he was. But all I could see is this big black dog heading right for me. Before I knew it, this wet dog was jumping all over me... I was covered in mud and his owners were going crazy lol. I heard them call him by name and all it took for me was to say his name firmly and tell him to go home!!! He looked up at me as if wondering how on earth I knew his name and then immediately rushed back to his owners. Have no idea how much trouble he is in lol... The good thing is that I can go for that walk again whenever I feel like it, and Baxter will not scare me half to death like he did earlier. I just might have made a new friend lol!

I would have been also scared, you only know after if a dog is friendly or not.

That would have freaked me out. I'm a cat person, and big dogs, friendly or not, scare me. Most I've met like to jump on me and I am always a bit afraid of being knocking down. I don't particularly enjoy being covered in mud, either. I'm glad this was your adventure, not mine. I'm glad you were able to handle it so well without getting angry.

I really was unnerved... luckily he didn't knock me down... I don't know really what was going through my mind. It all happened so fast. At least I know that if he comes out again, I can just call him by name and give him a pet!!

I'm glad that they took the time to let me know that he wasn't going to bite. You hear some nasty stories! I think he just wanted to play!

It is unsettling when an unleashed dog makes its way towards you. I've had dogs jump on me too. The owner would tell me how friendly the dog is while the dog is ripping holes in my jacket sleeve with its teeth!

Okay... that is scary. That never occurred to me. I don't know what to do if the dog shows signs of being vicious!

@Hate2Iron My mother was taking Chemo for her ovarian cancer and she was invited to a party at a friend of hers. As soon as she entered this friends house, the dog went berzerk and went for my mothers throat. Apparently this dog was a former K9 dog and was trained to sniff out narcotics.

I walk up to an hour daily and dogs are something one must deal with.

I want to go in the next direction next, but I think that I will take hubby with me next time. There are two dogs to contend with in that direction.
