What kind of house warming gifts do you like to give and receive?

I just found this planter. I think it is so adorable. Do people still give this kind of gift for a housewarming or some similar event?

Housewarming presents are the best. It shows that you care and are happy for your friend's new place. It's good to give useful items like toasters, blenders, etc... BUT believe it or not, unique and thoughtful gifts are most appreciated. Something the person with the new place would normally not buy themselves because they don't want to "waste" money on something like that. I'm thinking funny pot holders or a cool little lamp. Every time they look at it, they'll think of you.

Those are very nice ideas! Today...a lo of people are frugal and cannot buy the fun stuff.
