Is it Springtime yet? Flowers are blooming, birds singing, Ospreys have traveled up north to nest, and there is more daylight time. So lets have a picnic! Many areas have started to "thaw out," and get some warmer weather now, and for some it "was" an exceptionally cold winter. Therefore, The National Day Calendar has declared that once again April 23rd is National Picnic Day. Here in my neck of the woods it was sunny and in the 60's today. How about you, was it warm enough yet to picnic? HISTORY OF THE PICNIC Research was unable to find the creator of National Picnic Day. This meal goes back to mid-18th-century open air French dining when all you needed was a bottle of wine, a loaf of bread, some cheese and fruit and you could have a party under the sky. Picnic is from the French for piquenique, which means a meal eaten outdoors. From barbecues to a simple basket of eats, picnics are light informal affairs intended to be relaxing and fun for everyone to enjoy the day. If you were unaware of this day mark it on your calendar for next year. There will be many opportunities to go to a park, barbecue on the patio, or find a field out in nature to mellow out to, and enjoy the sunshine and some good eats too! And don't forget that frisbee..... Source- nationaldaycalendar.com Photo- google images/toysrus.com

There's still snow on the ground to have an outdoor picnic. I'll wait another month for that.

I thought it was a bit early to declare it National picnic day? That day should be amended to the month of May.

Shame it's not a Saturday or Sunday, no time for a pique-nique today.

@dgobucks226 They should make the day "mobile", let's say the last Sunday of April.

You don't need a special day for a picnic, although it is a fun celebration. I always enjoyed being invited to a picnic. Good food and socializing with friends. Who doesn't like that.....

Picnics are great fun - until the ants decide to invite themselves.

When I was a little girl, my Grandma was big on picking. In Hawaii, the weather is beginning to get better after the flood did big damage on parts of Kauai and Oahu. We're going to have a telethon on Wed. during KHON tv morning and evening news by Red Cross.
