The Osprey is back on her nest

I was not sure that this nesting pair of Ospreys (fish hawks) would come back again since the golf course that lay to the right of the photo has been torn down and laid mostly bare to construct "necessary" housing that will be priced beyond the reach of most people needing housing. Anyway, she is sitting on her nest again, the lake across the street provides easy fishing and the male and the male brings fish home. Funny thing; since I am dealing with a gimpy foot temporarily, I had turned a dining room chair toward the kitchen to talk while Anne was preparing dinner. I discovered that I am at perfect height to see the nest (a long block away) through the kitchen window.

The birds are creatures of habit returning to the same nesting.

Yeah every year if they both survive. I hope the construction noise does not drive them away.

I hope your foot is getting better James. Birds like to go back to the nests they built the previous years. I am waiting to see the swallows come back.

@JamesHxstatic It's the same for the swallows and the European Red Robins.

Our local utility kept having a problem with Ospreys nesting on one of their communication towers near my work, so they installed a very tall telephone pole with a platform at the top and moved the nest over to it. That was about 15 years ago, and a pair of nesting Ospreys take up residence there every year. I can see the nest very well from looking out my office window (I'm on the top floor of our building). Those ospreys are beautiful birds.

@JamesHxstatic I love watching them dive into the water and come up with a fish in their talons!

I can walk a bit easier today, but the swelling persists.

Lucky you! Did you know that the male osprey builds his nest to attract his mate? The fancier, the better! lol. They mate for life and stay in the same nest unless it is destroyed.

Yes, many platforms have been installed around here with all our lakes and rivers, so ospreys have made a major comeback.

I have yet to spot a nest this season as I am sure there will be many as I have many fruit and other trees. But strangely they choose odd places like our improvised letter box or the top of our entrance light For some reason the eggs were laid but they left the place the job unfinished last year

How nice that you have a good view of the nest through the kitchen window. And lovely that the pair have returned to their old nest.
