Lost Copper Mines

A long time ago Kennecott, Alaska had people rushing to stake their claim of copper. Copper mining started in the early 1900s when two prospectors stumbled upon $200 million worth of copper. They formed the Utah Copper Company in 1903 and soon a whole town sprang up. There were five mines in Kennecott and the richest of them was named Bonanza. However, by 1938 the copper supply had run really low and soon this town became a ghost town. What saved it was that today it has become a National Historic Landmark and is located in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. Do you enjoy visiting abandoned towns?

Yes, they still existed in the desert here when I was a kid but gone now. Old crumbling walls and abandoned mines.

We do have some in my country. However, I don't see them often. I like the photo you have shared.
