Pretty Sure It's Broken

United States

Yesterday morning I somehow managed to stub my toes on my crutches when I got up to use the bathroom, which caused me to trip, fall forward, and put weight down on my injured foot/ankle. Now the middle toe on my previously uninjured foot is all banged up and is an ugly black and blue color. It hurts like hell to walk on it or bump it at all. It's a bit swollen to boot. I think I may have fractured it. So in the course of the last two months, I managed to fall down the stairs, fracture my ankle in two places, then possibly fracture the thumb on my left hand when I was getting in the car after getting my cast (by accidentally flopping down on my hand,) and now I have a probable broken toe on my left foot. Either I am getting clumsier as I get older or my bones are getting brittle (I'm only 34.) Osteoporosis runs in my mom's family, so perhaps I should ask to be checked for that. I shouldn't be fracturing things right and left! As if hopping around on one foot and hobbling in my walking boot (when I wear it) wasn't difficult enough, now I have to manage it with a beat up/probably broken toe on my "good foot." Sigh. This could only happen to me!

Take care of yourself. They say bad things happen in threes. Hope they are right and that nothing else happens to you.

One of my very earliest memories is of knocking myself over while I was in my walker...my mom says I was 9 months old when that happened! (I guess I would have had to be pretty little to be in a walker to begin with.) So I'm starting to think I'll never grow out of it.

@Ithink Maybe just put me in one of those big plastic bubbles, that protect people from germs. I'll just roll around in it, like a hamster.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I hope it heals quickly and yes I would be sure to get checked for that especially if it runs in your family. I have never broken a bone in my life - I just get pain alot in my back because my spine is out of place due to scoliosis but that's about all i ever encountered. Prayers for a quick recovery for you and hopefully no more falling.

@Srbageldog it can be. Hopefully after this you don't break anything else.

Before this, the only other time I broke anything was my nose when I was in my mid-20s (that was pretty horrible too.) I'm sorry that you have scoliosis. Back pain can be unbearable. Take care.

All it takes is falling down the wrong way and all of a sudden it's broken.

@rheicel Yes, I'm very clumsy, unfortunately. This was the first time I broke anything due to clumsiness, though.

My guess is that you have been under extreme stress. When consumed with thoughts and stress, we are not present and are more prone to accidents. Sorry for your bad luck. Try being more present when moving around and doing things that could possibly cause an accident.
