Great memories aren't always expensive

We went to Charleston, SC earlier this month to visit our daughter and family. Our grown grandson, Josh, was there for a week from Maine. His 3 year old was there too and what a little mess she is! Rather spoiled, but so smart and funny. She loves her doctor's kit and had to check everyone's heart and ears. Josh was glad to get out of that cold and snow in Maine for a few days. We played a game called corn hole (tossing beanbags into a hole in a board) out in the warm sunshine in the backyard on Saturday. The next day the guys went fishing on a pier and believe it or not, my son-in-law caught a seagull! He was casting his fishing line when the bird caught the bait in mid air. They managed to get the hook out after they put a jacket around the bird. Sure wish someone had videoed it! My daughter and I did a little shopping, then that evening a couple from church came for a cookout. They're from Kuwait and are really cool people. The couple are Christians and the husband was tortured for his faith while growing up before they came to the US. The very best part of the whole weekend was being with our kids. You can't put a price tag on that. Since we don't plan on moving, I just wish we could move Charleston about three hours closer to us!

A mother and daughter's most happy bonding is shopping. That's how me and my daughter bonds. She chooses, I buy for her. Then we will eat in a restaurant she likes.

It's wonderful to spend time with the family. I am glad they were able to get the hook out, poor seagull.

That was so strange! It seemed ok once they got the hook out.

@LadyDuck Thankfully, my husband knew to wrap the seagull up in his jacket so it would be still.

I have been wanting to visit Charleston. I keep hearing it's beautiful there. Our family play corn hole too.

That's a fun game, isn't it? And all ages can play. I hope you get a chance to visit Charleston, but I wouldn't go in the hottest summer months if possible. The humidity is a killer.

I'm glad you had such an enjoyable time. We first played corn hole in France of all places and we've since made our own board and beanbags. It's a fun game and has proved popular with our friends too.

@1creekgirl Mike's family is, his parents, sister and her family, niece and her family. Most of mine are still living up north. Both of us have family spread out all across the county.

@Dena91 That makes it hard for family reunions.

Sounds like a wonderful time! I've never played corn hole only horseshoes and shuffleboard which in a way involves targets and tossing items. As you say Vicki, nothing like spending meaningful time with family!

I would love to be closer, but we're happy where we are. And if we moved farther south, we'd be farther away from our son and grandson. Somehow I don't think we'll get Charleston to move a little north!

The best time I ever had was when my girls and there family came down to Florida to visit all at the same time this past January. You are absolutely right, you don't have to spend a lot of money to have a wonderful time.
