Do you still have a home phone?

cell phones, home phones

Most we know no longer have a home phone, which might seem odd to some. Because just about everyone has a cell phone these days, it might seem that having a home phone is no longer important. We have learned there are some reasons why certain people would need to keep a home phone. Some people have their internet and phone through the same company and would pay more if they dropped their phone service. That makes no sense to me, but then I don't run the show!

May be it makes no sense to you, but our landline phone comes free with our Internet connections and all the calls we place in Switzerland, Europe and United States are free. I pay if I use my cellphones, I would be an idiot not to keep my landline.

We certainly don't have such a deal here @LadyDuck However, in some areas, people are charged more for their internet if they don't accept home phone service.

@PatZAnthony I am glad we have this deal. I call my family in Italy almost every day, the cost is zero using my landline phone. Should I use my cellphone I would spend at least $25 a month in calls.

When we decided to ditch the service for landline and cable here, we said about 40% off the original package. That was enough of an incentie to just keep Internet and keep our cell phones only @hereandthere

yes, I still have my home phone.. do I use it all that much? no.. but it is there for emergencies... and Also I leave my home phone number for surveys or other types of things.. where I do not want to leave my cell.. I dont want to be receiving SPAM and telemarketing calls on my cell. it is prepaid and I don't want to waste my minutes on that.. I also work at night and do not want them calling my cell during the day and waking me up.. for some sales call.

I can't afford two phones but if I ever can I'd love to get a home phone so the fools that keep calling me about medicare deals can leave a message on it.

I already get it @MarshaMusselman I'm 68. What I wish is they'd simply leave a message but they won't do that on my cell phone for some reason, they simply keep calling and calling mostly about medicare supplements or some other nonsense.

Does that mean you would like the info without needing to talk to someone on the phone about it? Will you be eligible in the near future or are you already getting it?

@rebelann I'm still choosing what I wanted because I get insurance with work. But I talked with someone last week and found that if I get a medigap plan that my surgery would cost me 138.00 rather than my copay of 500.00 to 1,000.00 or more. So now I will be studying the plans once again.

I have set up a tech to come by next week to upgrade our internet and landline service. We use a landline to get local incoming calls on our answering machine and only have the basic bare bones telephone service. I don't know why the telephone company wants to charge so much for the telephone service as we don't even have any extra special features and since they are doing a 12 month special package promo we are opting for the 100 megabits per second high speed internet and landline phone service for around 76 dollars a month for the next 12 months. I hope it proves worth our while.

Yes, still have a landline but probably will eventually faze it out. It comes with a matching mobile and it's a bundle price.

@JohnRoberts If the price had been reasonable, the landline might still be here! The company we deal with is way too high and there is not a happy alternative

We have a land line against my wishes. We will be having more business calls on it though. We have pre paid cells. Hubby thought we might have problems with our cells and wanted the land line as back up. It is the opposite. The landline has been knocked out about once a year, and we had to use our cell to notify the carrier.

When we had the chance to break away from cable and a home phone, we did it. Now with just Internet and cell phones, we are saving a bit and it is less to deal with.

Our Internet is a "stand-alone" choice, so no bundle was required here @louievill. We don't care about watching television enough to pay for it.

That's how my sister's used here's for the last ten years. But now, she's in between places so it's using it instead of the landline until she's in an apartment that's being restored.

I still have my landline as well as my smartphone. I only use the landline when I'm at home. The other phone is mostly for when I'm away from home, in case I need help. Funny thing is that I was going to cancel the landline but when I called Verizon to renew my contract with them, the price would have gone way up without phone service. The bundle is less expensive. So I've kept it.

I would have kept the home phone if they didn't charge me extra (too much according to my calculation). Then again, it is good that I no longer have a landline one. Survey people often called me on that one. Now, no more.
