*HeadNODDING!

I watched in passing a scene from an afternoon series on television wherein a senior actress was talking to somebody over the phone; she nodded her head in approval of what was said by the caller.
This is what we do at times: we nod our head to show approval or agreement, or affirmation to the person we talk over the phone, with the accompanying word YES! Or we shake our head when we say NO! It is as if the caller can see us nodding or shaking our head.
I am sure many of us even give hand gestures when we are stressing a point to somebody we communicate over the phone. Although our speaking voice can demonstrate our emotions like anger, embarrassment, fright, and sweetness, I think all these can be manifested with our body movements, and the caller cannot even see us.
Do you do this too when you are conversing with somebody on the phone?

Most of us do. I think it is innate on us people to do that.

@mlgen1037 right. have you tried talking over the phone to somebody in an angry tone but smiling? i think our voice will 'say' it all that we are not actually angry and instead joyful.

yes it should be innate but there are some exceptions to the rule.

It is possible, Although I have not really noticed it when talking on the phone myself.. I have noticed it in other people. I am often saying what the heck are they doing... ? only to discover that lone person walking down the street looking crazy is just someone on bluetooth talking and gesturing wildly. lol

haha! all the more crazy for someone who uses the bluetooth. talking loudly and gesturing will make a person look lunatic. for me, i usually talk loud because the truth is i cannot hear the voice of the person at the other end of the line. i even shout. and my voice is not good to hear. hahaha.

@minx267 that is my problem, good thing is my colleagues who call me, know that i should be hearing their voices in slow motion.

@ridingbet Yes, it is, though I can't raise just one eyebrow. I've tried.

@just4him i can do the one eyebrow raised when the person i am talking to over the phone is somewhat sarcastic or does not listen to me.

yes i think so too. we cannot convey what we feel if we do not do body movements even by calling or talking to someone.a raised eyebrow is also an emotion by body language

ohyes. if you are angry, your eyes get smaller, right? or when surprised, your eyes bulge out.

really? so you do nod your head when you agree or approve, or affirm what is being said over the phone?

hahaha! yes, i agree. unless we are on Skype or video-call that the caller will see how we communicate with him.

our emotions can be manifested with our voices as well. we cannot just stress a point if we do not do the 'finger-pointing' on to something.

true, and the caller will not actually know what actions you are doing while answering, right?
