Has anyone ever done affiliate work?

I've been signing up to affiliate for various products and entered some programs as well. There is so much information out there, that it is overwhelming. I would like to know if anyone has any tips on how to get my products out there. I mean, I want to know what worked for YOU and how long it took to see some money. I am so tired of struggling financially and I just really want this to work.
I bought a domain and will start to write posts. Since I can't stick to one niche, I decided to just write a lifestyle blog type of website.
Any tips on how to make money online (that exclude surveys) is also appreciated! Thanks!

Display affiliate links only related to your niche.
Also write quality content.

I have earned money with some affiliate companies by referring products.. that is something that can be done in a blog post.. Places Like Zazzle, Society6 and Sunfrog (and many more) pay for referral sales. and you don't have to pay money to sign up and join them..
