I'm Back!

Hello everyone and how are you this tuesday evening ? I am doing pretty well considering. Surgery was a success and my heart started right up on it's own after being taking off bypass. I was only in the hospital for 6 days, came home Monday afternoon. It feels great to be back and now I'm just trying to find ways to get comfortable. I have to wear a brace for 6 weeks around my waist as when they did the surgery they had to break open my sternum and the brace helps keep it together etc. It is annoying to wear but I am starting to get used to it. Everyone at the hospital was shocked how well I recovered. We thought I was going to be in there 2 weeks and nope. I was so sick for the first few days from the anesthesia but than that got better. I still don't have an appetite yet but I'm sure that will come here soon. So since I've been home i'm getting a bit more sleep, but still exhausted. I'm sure in the next few days I will be back to my normal self again. I had the visiting nurse come today and she was happy with how well I am doing and doesn't think I need 24 hour care or physical therapy, so that makes me happy. My wound looked good and my vitals were great. I just have to drink ensure or boost since I'm not eating yet to help get protein I need. My throat is still raw from the two tubes I had put in so that's why I can't eat much. But other than all that I feel great and no pain at all. Just trying to rest as much as i can and listen to the nurse and do what I need to so I can recover well. I'll try to get to post when I can. I am still tired and can't sit for long periods of time. I just wanted to write and let you know I was back. I hope you all have a great week ahead.

Great that you survived your ordeal and will soon be 100% fit as a fiddle with a sound ticker.

@marlina That's weird. I have no pain and this brace wrap i wear around my waist tight enough to keep things in place helps so much. I wonder if they didn't have it when you had yours ?

@Blondie2222 , So wonderful news. I can still hear my valve ticking. They never put a brace on me, no wonder it was so painful.

@LadyDuck I try to rest as much as I can. Each day i can go for a little longer walks which is nice. I still don't have an appetite yet but I am trying to eat things with protein to get my body strength back.

@Blondie2222 I can understand you still don't have an appetite. Eat only what you like, it's a good idea to try to have proteins.

@andriaperry mines an 8 week recovery - they had to break my sternum open to put the valve in. No pain though!
