I Survived the Root Canal At Least Round One

I had my root canal this morning at 11 am. I was only in the dentist office for 45 minutes. He did the first step in the procedure. Evidently, I need a second visit which is next week and then my personal dentist will need to put the permanent filling into my crown. I told the dentist that I had the extra nerves in my face so he gave me lots of novocaine and it was a relatively pain-free procedure. I can not say that I am totally pain-free now, that whole side of my mouth is sensitive and so is the tooth. I hope that after next week this feeling will go away, it is not very comfortable. After the procedure, we went out to lunch, I had a lobster roll since I thought it would be soft enough to eat with a numb mouth. I figured I deserved it, everything feels better with lobster. Then I went home and took a three-hour nap. I am glad it is over.

I've had two root canals in my lifetime and neither one was painful, during or after. Having a root canal done, for me at least, was not the horror story others have made it out to be.

I slept through mine. I asked my dentist if it was okay if I did, and he laughed at me, and told me I could, but it would be impossible. He propped my mouth open anyway, and off to sleep I went! He didn't realize I hadn't slept in three days, and that morning I had accidentally taken a sleeping pill instead of my thyroid pill.

The dentist warned me that every root canal is different and that some people have no pain and others do have pain so he could not really tell me how mine would be but it is no pain, thank goodness.

I guess you have a more complicated situation than I did. When I had a root canal my dentist did it all at one time. It all took about 45 minutes. I have always wanted to try a lobster roll.

It took 45 minutes but then they put a temporary filling in and he will go back with more of the treatment that they put in the canal next Thursday. Then he will out in another temporary filling and I will need to go to my dentist for the final filling. I am lucky though, I have no infection.

Round one is the worst! Especially after the novocaine wears off. Your second visit should be no problem. Most of the roots were dealt with on the first visit.

I am glad you were able to eat your lobster roll. A root canal is not so painful as some pretend.

I didn't really have pain but the sound of the drill is always offputting.

Yes, everything feels better with lobster. I had lobster for dinner tonight. I was pretty lucky to have no pain with my root canals.

Well there will be the permanent filling to get from my dentist to fill the hole they made in my crown but I am due to get a cleaning soon anyway so maybe we can do it all at one time.

They say that tooth extraction has much lesser pain than root canal.

Yes but they also say you should always try to save the tooth so I decided to give it a try. It wasn’t terrible.

Root canals never seem like a fun experience at all. But I am sure whatever pain was causing the need for it is worse than the pain of fixing it. As for lobster...oh yeah. Lobster is good any time and for whatever reason.

I have to say this endontist did everything possible to make sure I was both relaxed and pain-free. I hate the sound of the drill but that was about the worst of it.
