Spam Can

If I had a can of Spam for every spam comment that tried to sneak through onto one of my blogs, I'd be set up with food for the rest of my life, which might be short if that's all I ate. I needed to do some maintenance work on one of my blogs. I had mostly stopped posting on it in 2014. I have just moderated and trashed 609 comments from one post alone. Fortunately, most of the other posts don't have that many comments I need to moderate. I just switched to using Disquis to handle the comments, so I hope I won't have so many to go through. It may be time to do another post on that site so it won't look so neglected. I don't know what motivates these spammers. I guess they hope comments won't be moderated. Some of them take half a page, are full of links and portions in other languages. Most were posted by the same names with a link that starts with only ww. in instead of www.. The link appeared to be from an Italian site. The same link and email address were posted by several different identities that I'm sure must have been robots. The comments were all nonsense. I guess these spammers are hoping to get through unmoderated and either scam people, infect their computers, or get backlinks to questionable sites. Why do you think people do this? If you blog, do you have this problem?

I'm sorry you have that problem. I usually don't get responses to my blogs, and I'm rarely there, even for the one I just set up.

Answering responses is said to be important in forming a connection with your followers. But I usually stop looking on Blogger blogs after a week, since they don't really notify us of post comments.

@bagarad I never know what to write about on blogs of that nature. I write more here. Here the comments and connections are important.

I turned off comments on all my sites because I was tired of chasing the spam.

Did you lose any followers or traffic when you did that?

@bagarad I don't think so. I have links to my Facebook pages, so people are still able to contact me if they want to.

Looks like you have three 's above, which is normal. Two is not. And it's easy to make a typo once, but over six hundred times?

@bagarad six hundred times? ohhhhhh... then I am safe. I was wondering if it is because of a computer virus. I will just edit and delete link when I noticed that I have that dot w w w

For the moment there I thought you were referring about the spam food, which is expensive here. But I agree with the spam messages, they should go.

I think, money seeking is the ultimate goal of spammers.

I'm sure it is, but don't they guess that their comments would ever get past moderation to get posted?

Hi Barbara. Those spammers are really annoying but they are so industrious that they really send those spams to almost everyone. They thought they can fool people.

You'd think they'd realize that their comments would not get posted because moderators would delete them first.

Spammers are difficult to understand, at the end I think they are just silly people.

I think they are foolish, but more criminally-minded that the average silly person.
