Hard at work

Last Sunday a friend asked if we really meant it when we said she could move in. I assured her that we did. She told me it would have to be in a couple of months, I said that was fine. However, twice a year we have "bulk trash" pick up. They will pick up certain things, but not household trash. Having said that, I had a bunch of stuff that had been in bins, but the bins had been outside for 5 years now, 95% of them needed to just go away. I also had a shed that I needed cleaned out and some of that stuff also needed to go away. This included some building supplies from the past few years, some boxes from that bad roommate who we evicted almost 3 years ago and some pretty rough bookcases. Once that shed was stripped bare and swept out, and the trash from it taken to the curb, we started on the room that she can move into. Now, besides some stuff that can be donated that belonged to Connie a/k/a Maggiepie there were 30 boxes of VHS tapes of the wife's. There were also some craft stuff to go outside to the sheds. How did I do this? Well, I mostly supervised, we had a couple of younger men who are into the theater with our geek that don't work full time jobs unless they are actively working on a show. In 6 hours they got the shed, which wasn't awful and 95% of the room emptied, also the bins that had been outside and stuff got ruined and got the stuff down to the street. And they are coming back next Tuesday and we are going to work on more of Connie's stuff that is in the purple shed and another room rearranged so I can get my bed put in there. If they are as efficient as they were Wednesday, and I suspect they will be, then we should be nearly done. We have a couple of more projects, but nothing like these two. Actually, the big project was the one on Wednesday, I didn't know they would be able to get rid of the bins nearly as easily as they did. I need to call St. Vincent de Paul to pick up the donations. Goodwill here in Austin doesn't do pick ups and while I wouldn't mind Savers getting it, they don't pick up either. My choices are St Vincent's and Salvation Army and Salvation Army is entirely too fond of their stuff. I am in pain from being out in the heat and I did actually do some stuff too, not like they did, but I did do stuff. In fact, after they left, I continued to find stuff to go out to the trash/recycling. I must've walked to the street another dozen times taking stuff out.

That is quite a lot but nothing feels great than being able to accomplish the things you need to do.

There's more to do, but I don't know how much more there is for the bulk trash. This is probably most of it.

@mlgen1037 So far, we've only really done the one day. I did go out and pull a few things up to the donation section of the shed. I have also been working on laundry.

@ElicBxn The first few days are usually the busiest but once most of the trash is thrown, the rest will be fast.

I wonder if anyone will pick through it before it's picked up.

@BarBaraPrz Most of these people know that if they do make too big a mess then they will be discovered in the end and the city will try to find and fine them.

@ElicBxn That's the thing: pickers don't always tidy up after themselves.

And there is more to do. When we moved Connie out of her apartment, she really wanted to consider moving into another one, so we couldn't get rid of all her stuff. But she doesn't need this stuff where she's at now.

All i can say is wow that is alot of trash. My mom would go nuts with that sitting around. She is one to have nothing sit around at all and i guess you can say im like that too. WOuld have been gone along time ago but better now then never i guess you can say. Hopefully you dont have to much more to do and got it taken care of. Glad you were able to donate some of that too as we do that as well and im sure it does help others.

@lologirl2021 yeah, my space isn't getting any larger and, honestly, I don't really have space in the back yard for another shed. I'm not getting any younger, so I need to decide what is possible and what isn't.

@ElicBxn Glad you are getting better with it. IF you dont need it possibly someone else will so donating things is a great thing to do. I have an entire kitchen table with chairs to get rid of. I tried selling it but not happening so i am going to bring it somewhere to donate it and get it out of the garage.

@ElicBxn You may have not done all they did but thinking of what has to be done is also not easy. Take care and hope you will be feeling better each day.

I've recovered from that day, and the one the next week. We took this week off because I had ordered some doors and they hadn't come in until yesterday, May 31st.
