Scribie is an online transcription company that is popular in the transcription industry because of the process they called "Advanced 4-Step Transcription Process" which is done entirely by human transcriptionists. I do like them at first because I'm a newbie in the transcription world and I found them to be very newbie friendly. The work is newbie friendly but you really have to bear with the pay. If you're just in training and you will finish one 6-minute audio in maybe an hour, you will be credited $0.5 for that. Not even a dollar for an hour of work. Sometimes it's misleading when someone promotes it and says that Scribie pays $5 per audio hour ( computed as $0.5 X 10 files of 6-min each or 1 hour) and then you are made to imagine that you can earn $5 an hour. But that is not supposed to be the thinking for that. Transcribing a 6-minute file will take newbie 30 minutes to an hour to finish, which means if you are not that good, an hour of audio will take you a day to transcribe and that is supposed to be your $5, a day of work, not $5 per hour earnings. But if you're okay with that, there is nothing wrong with working with a minimal pay like that of Scribie. If you've been accustomed to the work it will be much easier for you, besides if you're really good, there are promotions there that could really make you over $200 to $500 per month working full-time. I'm currently making $100 per month. Until the revamp. The grading system has become really tight. And literally, you will be out of the system overnight. That is how ferocious the grading system is now as compared to the previous one. It's no more a newbie friendly environment. It has evolved very abruptly and transcribers are really working hard to get by. And what's disappointing is, no change in the pay whatsoever. Well, that's how they want it. I know in the past there have been major changes also, but they're still in business. I just hope they survive this one.

I think I applied for this once and then changed my mind. If it's become even stricter I probably won't bother but I used to audio type back in the day.

@TreinY Yes I occasionally look for others ways to make money because I fancy a change but I don't know if this is for me.

@sprite1950 I don't know what is that change that you like and also what is the motivation behind. Is it really earning or just to learn a skill... It will all depend on what plans you have. But you're doing great here in myLot.

The pay was bearable if you enjoy the work. But if it becomes too tight I think there's nothing you can do about it.

Companies are changing every now and then. Not easy to find a good one... But there are lots in the net maybe you can try to find some while hanging on. if you think you're not happy then try your luck with others.

@chavezrmc It's a little bit like Scribie, low-paying transcripts, but they have a simpler system to understand with grading etc, their files are clearer, and you have the opportunity to take larger files for more money. You can look it up, the freelancer section.

Welcome to myLot. Enjoy the site! The first step for all newbies is to read the Guidelines to learn what is allowed or not on the site. Then you can write a post introducing yourself. Tell us a bit about yourself. Furthermore, read around as much as you can, Like and Comment on other members' posts. Only then will members come to your site and do the same. This is called interaction. Don't expect too much money-wise. If you reach $5 a month (the payout limit), you can call yourself lucky.

I have never heard of this site.. But if they changed its grading system, they should also change the pay system as well..

@TreinY Ohh that's too bad, are you still a member there?

Nope. They may change it though, but I think to the prejudice of the transcriptionists. $0.5 per 6min file will be $0.3 per 6min file. Oh, my! I hope not.

@Jessabuma Yes, I just do it in my spare time. Actually, that was the first online work that I had, that's why I feel bad about the change. You need to exert more effort now just to earn a minimal amount. I guess it's time to move on and head towards more lucrative sites, more opportunities.

That site also used to be my training ground for transcription work and I have stopped using that site many years ago. It used to be $1 for every 6 minutes of audio. I just checked the site and the pay seems to be higher now, isn't it? I can see that they are all above $1 for 6 minutes.

Truly, now. But I think the previous grading evaluation was okay, even the pay (because they really were newbie friendly). You can bear with the pay because it really is a great environment for a starting transcriptionist because there were fewer frustrations that will make you more motivated to strive and sharpen your skills, but now, with all that additional work and with no adjustments to pay, it will be very painful. They are at par now with other transcription companies when it comes to the grading system and on how they screen transcription candidates, but their pay is much lower.

@TreinY I was working on Scribie last year for a while and started again this year in April. I live in Eastern Europe where the cost of living makes doing Scribie more or less full time makes me more than enough to live on... $450 a month... Until this revamp whereby the earnings have halved. Not because I'm any worse but simply because I won't do any files anymore which have a high chance of errors ... It's basically a 3 strikes and you're out policy now.... I'm looking elsewhere. Scribie is awful to work for now. They sent out an email supposedly explaining the reasons for the revamp with promises of higher pay... Well, guess what? The pay rates are exactly the same. I don't think their new system will be sustainable as they lose more and more workers and their already poor reputation goes down the toilet even further...

I would imagine they need to improve the overall quality for their clients and thus the tightening of the standards.

You're very correct. That's what they actually explained. But I just wish they will do something with the pay. It's one of the lowest paying online transcription companies. But I know business is business. They're gonna do what they have to do.

Nope. Have been busy with other things now. I think it will be unwise to work now. Maybe if they adjust the pay.
