Play it Again, Sam #25b - "Crazy"

I absolutely love this one! Love, love, love it! We are at #25b, the "cover" portion of today's Play it Again, Sam, and I'll say it again. I love it: R.E.M.'s cover of "Crazy" by Pylon. Most music fans are aware of R.E.M. The band emerged from the same Athens, Georgia scene as Pylon, but while Pylon faded into relative obscurity, R.E.M. went on to worldwide fame, culminating in residence in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. R.E.M. recorded their cover of "Crazy" as the B-Side for their 1985 single, "Driver 8," from their album, Fables of the Reconstruction. Their version was so good that they used it again later that year, again as a B-Side, for the single, "Wendell Gee." Finally, the song saw a proper release when it was made the leadoff track on the band's 1987 compilation album, Dead Letter Office, a collection of B-Sides and rare outtakes (and a damn fine one, at that!) While Dead Letter Office did produce a single, "Crazy" was not it, unfortunately. Which is unfortunate, because it truly is a great tune. R.E.M. totally did it justice.
