Today I m going to write about an article which I read in newspaper. The term "numismatics" is the study or collection of currency. A man named Farokh Todywalla was the person to setup India's first numismatic auction house in 1989. He has a passion for coins, tokens and paper money. In his interview he shares the brief history of its origin. In the year 1918 in Bombay, following world war 2, England circulated more bank notes than coins which "would be printed in England but the signatures would be affixed in India through a hand press". He has conducted over 150 auctions in India. He is accompanied by his son named Malcolm. He attended his first auction at the age of 6. Malcolm had then travelled to London to attend several auctions to get a "first hand feel and understanding of how auctions take place. The passion runs through the whole generation as his grandfather had visited England in 1925 and returned with range of coins that became his first collection. In 1989 the Todywalla's hosted their first numismatic auction at a conference organised by the Oriental Numismatic Society in Nagpur. The Indian Coin Society was also formed at the same conference. Todywalla's over the years have sold some of the rarest bank notes and coins including the vintage one-rupee note which bagged RS 2,20,000 and also the 400 year old gold mohur minted during Jehangir's reign which went for winning bid of RS 1.55 crores. Thus the passion of Todywalla's which initially was pursued as a hobby became a full fledged business over a period of time. It's great to explore talented, passionate and hardworking people across different sectors which exists about which we aren't aware.

When I was younger years, I do collect old coins. However, it is quite a pricey hobby.

I wish I had a 1943 copper penny. It is valued in the thousands or perhaps millions as it is about the rarest 1 cent coin in America when copper was temporarily replaced with zinc coated steel during World War 2.
