Being born is like a lottery..

. Did you all watch the entire royal wedding?.. I did .. I relaxed after working the whole day and just watched until it's over .. I enjoyed looking at the fancy hats and elegant frocks on the ladies and their partners who looked dashing in their suits .. Let us hope that Megan and Harry will live happily ever after .. Isn't it amazing how a dysfunctional family ( just like most of us ) become icons and looked up to and became powerful.. Being born really is like a lottery where a few get lucky and earn titles of royalty by birth, isn't it?..It doesn't matter how immoral or dysfunctional they are.. lol .. Anyway, when I was in the draw 62 years ago, my ticket got stuck down the barrel, so I did not win even the 10th division..lol.. So it was harder to function growing up in a very dysfunctional environment .. But the only thing that got me through was my passionate refusal to be defined by the dysfunction of the family where I came from ... I realised earlier on that I didn't have to get hold of the "winning ticket" to function well and find my own decent place in life.. What defines you?.. Bess Photo is one of the dresses I managed to finished working this weekend.. I can relax while babysitting in the next three days and then I will start on my wedding .... I am so busy but I still managed to come by and interact .. .. I am amazed at myself .. lol!! ..

Hi Bess. That is a wonderful post. Not because we are in a certain situation, we should let it control us and tell us of what and who we are. As for me, what defines me is my values. Those values that was instilled to me by my parents, particularly my father. We are not the rich family but he managed to get by in an honest way. My father always says that he could give us the perfect, rich life but at what cost? It will cost us our soul and integrity if we do things that would step on others and if we choose to do something corrupt. You are really talented, Bess.

Thanks Louise .. Growing up without much can be an excuse to corrupt self in order to get by in life .. It was very hard for me because I was surrounded by dysfunctional corrupt people .. But I don't know why that even at a very young age, without knowing any better, no good role model, I felt that there has to be a better way to live.. Which shows that good is born with us.. The bad is learned.. You are blessed to have responsible loving parents who brought and guided you to yourself .. that is why, you are in touched with the good that is within you even before you were born.. If I did not cling on to the good within me, the comfortable life that I fortunately enjoy now would have turned me into one out of touch human being ... just like most of the people I used to know ... who seemed to have forgotten where they came from...Very sad really.. ..

@epiffanie Thank you, Bess. I appreciate those kind words. And as I mature every year, I realized the worth of my parents' teachings. I wish my siblings would too. I think you are an exception to those many - those who had chosen to do bad and those who have thought highly of themselves. It is really saddening that people choose to do something bad in order to attain there wants or to get ahead of others. On the other hand, those who think highly of themselves and forget about where they came are one of the worst people for me.

@mlgen1037 You know, it is a puzzle to me why even siblings who grew up in the same environment and were brought up the same way, they have their own desires.. So, there's always issues in every family ... I read somewhere that 90% of families are dysfunctional.. the 10% are recovering .. when I read that I thought, my family is one of the many that will never recover .. So when we sit back and think hard, it's better to focus work on our SELF as the functioning individual rather than always being entangled with the family ties and be dragged into their co-dependency relationship which is unhealthy for our being... We are very lucky if we belong to a family whose members have the same goal, to be a contributor rather than a burden to other members of the family ... .

Only looked for her dress on the news and was disappointed. Otherwise, they don't interest me.

I heard a few people feeling disappointed at the wedding dress design .. I thought that she was really simple and even the makeup was looking very natural.. I guess, she wants to be seen and not the dress ... The tiara, the bracelet and the earrings were all so simple .. But she looked lovely ..

You have done so well to rise above your family circumstances. Unfortunately I didn't get to watch the wedding.

@epiffanie So I missunderstood. Sounds like a big job to make the wedding dress and the other dresses.

Even a normal birth is a strike on the lottery. It take 1 out of a few billion chance for the sperm to enter the egg to be you

Yes indeed... and every minute that we are formed from the moment of conception, we are constantly dropped into that draw ..

Beautifully worded post. I didn't watch the royal wedding, though what I heard from people who did watch is that it was very nice. It's so true. I have often wondered how would my life be different if certain things, certain family tradgedy didn't happen, if my dad wasn't so ill, ... there's some school of thought that says our souls pick our families and circumstances. Serious? There's some chance that I picked this? I am so happy you persevered your background :-) Lovely dress, both the one you're wearing and the one on the mannequin

Thank you ... I don't know if we picked our families.. If I did, then I made a huge mistake .. But then, if not for them, I won't be around.. I won't be born.. It would not have mattered though .. Life is a mystery isn't it .. I think that's what make us keep going.. .

@epiffanie So welcome :-) Ah, I know. I struggle with that concept too. If I had been born to other parents, would my soul still be the same? I've wondered that, too

Although, unlike the lottery, we do have some choice in our own outcomes. Good that you seem to have made it despite your own odds. I took like to think I beat the odds a bit, being able to attain wealth despite lack of a college degree. As for the Royal Wedding, I'd rather stick a fork in my eye.

I can understand why you feel that way about the royals .. It is our responsibility to gather wealth and use it to make life enjoyable because life is to just that.. to enjoy it.. I have a lot of respect for people who work hard to make life easy despite the lack of higher education .. ..
