Day 33 Matthew 13:44-53 Matthew 13:44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hides, and for joy thereof goes and sells all that he hath, and buys that field. 45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: 46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it. 47 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind: 48 Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away. 49 So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, 50 And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. 51 Jesus said unto them, Have ye understood all these things? They say unto him, Yea, Lord. 52 Then said he unto them, Therefore every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is a householder, which brings forth out of his treasure things new and old. 53 And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed thence. Do you understand everything someone tells you? I confess, I don’t. It takes me sometimes many questions to understand something fully. How about you? When you know the pattern of Jesus’ parables, it’s easy to understand what he meant by them. Jesus had gone into a house with his disciples and explained the previous parables to them, them told them more parables, after which he asked if they understood those ones, and they told him, yes. The parable of the treasure hid in a field. The treasure is the Word of God and the field is the world. The parable of the pearl of great price – again, the pearl is the Word of God, the field is the world. The parable of the net is God sending out laborers into the world to draw all men to Jesus Christ and his message of salvation. All those who accept will be accepted into the kingdom of God, and those who reject Jesus, will be cast into outer darkness, Hell. Jesus then went on to tell his disciples about the scribe, who is like a householder. The scribe is someone God called to take care of those who accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord, to teach them, and instruct them in the knowledge of the Word. He was telling his disciples, they were scribes, and he was giving them the responsibility of taking care of those who would accept him as Savior and Lord. As Christians, you have the responsibility to teach those who accept Jesus as Savior and Lord. His commission isn’t just to his disciples, whom he also called apostles, but to every person who names the name of Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord. Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spoke unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. That is your commission as Christians. It is my commission. We are to go, to tell, to teach, to do everything Jesus instructed his disciples to do. Will you go? In today’s age of communication, you don’t need to get on an airplane and go to foreign countries. You can go by way of the Internet, reaching people and places who never heard the name of Jesus before and telling them of his great love for them. You don’t need a special degree or license to teach, you need a love for Jesus Christ and a passion for telling people about him and his love for them. Everyone who accepts Jesus Christ, is called to teach others. There is only one thing you need to do before you can go to the world – study. 2 Timothy 2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. If you don’t study the Word, you won’t be able to teach it. If you don’t pray, you won’t have compassion on those Jesus called you to teach. Your job as Christians, is to be all you can be for the kingdom of God. Start on your knees, study every day, and you will be able to tell others about Jesus’ love for them. That is your pearl of great price. Let’s pray: Father, help me be all I can be for you and your kingdom. Help me go to the nations, teaching them what you would have me teach. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. Copyright © 22 May 2018 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay
