Is it true that the coconut will not fall down by it self?

Coconut is a very big fruit and I always think it is quite dangerous if it falls down when it is mature. However, I also heard that such kind of accidents has never been happened. It seems that the coconuts have "eyes" and they will not fall when people are underneath.
Is it true?

Here, youless, you might be interested in reading this article...
TODAY I received this tweet from @GreenpeaceAustP: Falling coconuts kill 150 people each year, 15 times the number of deaths attributable to sharks. This kind of statement might make you think twice about sitting under the idyllic

It will fall down, if it matured, Not only the coconuts but its leafs (just like a branch) is also falls when it become dry. Usually some one will climb and pluck it then cut the leafs too as a safety method.
However, there is a strong belief, coconut will never cheat, which means, it won't hurt any one by dropping its seeds.

@youless , I think coconut tree is very high and the shade provided by it is not like the other trees with dense branches, because of this I think people taking rest under this tree may be less in number so may the accidents are unheard of!? I am not sure...but this is my wild guess! Thanks!

@AKRao24 Logically, people wouldn't stand under coconut tree, partly because it offers no shade or seating arrangement unlike Mangoes and guava trees. The trunk of coconut tree is also covered by fiber like stuff. Nobody can lean on it either. But I like the idea about eye..the shape of fruit is such that instead of vertical fall, it will have a funnel type of fall. The fruit dispersal if it comes to that, would normally ensure that it falls away from the root. Therefore, the fruits would be in the direction away from the root. No competition allowed in nature. If the tree is leaning, most people would not want to stand underneath it. And since the bunch of coconuts are together, chances of bunch hanging like the plantain are more. And that means a single fruit is not leaving the rest. Interesting question though. :)

We don't have coconut trees here. I wish one day the coconut would fall directly on my head. Then I don't have to go to the supermarket to buy it.lol

@youless I am just joking. We can buy a coconut with ten yuan in the supermarket. But I think the coconut that fell from the tree must be fresher than the one in the supermarket.lol.

@caopaopao In fact I can't find the big difference to tell whether the coconut is fresh or not. I prefer to buy the coconut from a market rather than a supermarket. As the market seller can remove all the shells, give you the juice and also the coconut flesh. I will only buy it if the service is so good. As you know it is too difficult to deal with the coconut. My fingers will be hurt again if I use the knife to deal with it by myself.

@youless This is how the urban legend says that people get coconuts. Now machines pick up coconuts, or men. There are no monkeys in the Caribbean islands I visited, but plenty of coconuts picked up by the local men. They cut the fresh coconut and you can drink it as is, or add rum and have a "coco loco".

I have seen coconuts fall from trees many a times because we had our own coconut trees. Have not seen any falling on anyones head but have seen them just missing hitting someone. And in South India where coconut trees are in abundance I have heard of coconuts falling on people and injuring them.

We do have coconuts that fall on their own but so far we have been spared.

Here in Hawaii, we have a lot of coconut trees. They are very well cared for with trimming all the time. When there are strong winds and in between trimmings, you'll find baby coconut in the ground. I love to eat shredded coconut and drink coconut water for it's potassium.
