The Ups and Downs of the Game

The past month has been interesting in my 2018 miniature golf campaign. I won a local tournament, then took three weeks off to celebrate. Seriously, the next week I went to a concert (Peter Case, Robyn Hitchcock, and Kevn Kinney in Nashville, a songwriter in the round thing that was amazing), then the week after that I had my annual cortisone shot in my hand. That numbed me up too badly to hold a putter, so I didn't play anymore until this past weekend. We started our state tournaments last weekend. It was typical for us: we had a rain delay. (We can bring rain out of a clear blue sky, I swear.) Additionally, the pollen was falling so hard it literally looked like we were in a snow globe! I was in the middle of the pack all weekend, getting cash on Saturday and falling apart (thanks to getting too hot) on Sunday to finish one stroke out of cash. Oh well, those are the breaks. Back to locals last night, I started out terribly, with a 35 (one under par!). That was "assisted" by taking a triple bogey on a very difficult hole that's chewed up and spat out more than one putter. I recovered, though, shooting 26 over 18 holes (12 on the back nine of round two, 14 on the front nine of round three) to get back into contention. I ended up second. Then we played best ball (for you grammar nazis, better ball, because we play with two, not three ). The tourney winner and I were tied after 18 holes, so we went to a playoff. As I got the better score on 18 I got to go first. (Quick aside: going first in something like best ball or match play is infinitely better, due to the fact that there's no pressure on you. The pressure is on the person going next to match or beat what you did!) After three holes it was decided: an unlucky pull from my putting coach pushed his ball into an obstacle and gave me the best ball win. Here's the funny thing: I went to the course with a whopping $17 in my wallet. That's all I needed, really: $15 for the tourney entry, and $2 for best ball. I left with $20. That's a good night! And that's the ups and downs of the game. Here's a guy who likes to play golf, but he plays "the real thing" and not miniature golf:

C'mon, you have to admit that this is a stretch...even if Alice is an avid golfer....

@FourWalls I know but still you always come up with something. No post goes by without musical accompaniment.

When do was a kid I loved crazy golf, putting greens and pitch-and-putts. I wish we'd had tournaments.

Congratulations! I love real golf, but should stick with miniature. I'm horrible at it.

Golf can be humbling at times even the miniature kind! Nice comeback though
