Sometimes I miss MySpace

In an era when Facebook is king of social media, I find myself fondly remembering MySpace. I remember the top 8 friends, customizing your profile, jazzing up that profile picture, and the pleasure of receiving a friend request. I miss it. It was a simpler time. No twitter, no Facebook, no Pinterest, or instagram. No Snapchat or Kik or WhatsApp. MySpace was the place to be. Did you have a MySpace?

I had an account with MySpace. Is MyLot got its name from MySpace?

I know what you mean. To go back even further, sometimes I miss the "teen domain scene." I am not sure how many folks remember (or were aware of it), but in the early 2000's, it was rather popular for teenagers (usually female) to buy an internet domain and learn html, javascript, css, dhtml, etc. as well as mastering Photoshop. The domain layouts would usually feature some pretty impressive graphic editing as well as some interesting html or javascript effect. The content would usually contain personal information, maybe a blog or online diary, a portfolio of past layouts and Photoshop experimentations, sometimes I a personal photo gallery, and maybe some surveys and things for the visitor, as well as a section dedicated to the domain itself. Mine was untarnished.net (which I still own as I didn't have the heart to part with it, but nothing is there). There was a competitive aspect -- you were always trying to make your site stand out from the rest, both in terms of having an impressive design and how engaging it was for the visitor. Most owners would change their domain's design every month or two. This may have been mostly a thing in the US, but I recall a few of these "teen domains" by people in other countries. Once all the owners of these domains - myself included - "grew up," the teen domain scene started to phase out, and by the mid 2000's, it was more or less no more. I would love to try something like that again, but I don't think it would be successful now and would probably even look out of place since the Internet has changed so much. Sometimes I think of it as the precursor of sorts to MySpace.

By the early 2000s I was in my 20s raising three toddlers (my two children and my niece). I was unaware of the teen domain scene

I never tried to have myspace. As far as I can remember, it is not popular in my country.

@acrogodess If I looked back, it didn't come to the limelight to Filipinos in 2006. They are more on using Fb and even Friendster.

It definitely is not popular now, but back in 2006 it was the thing to have

I had it and I loved it! I remember those often long "favorite" lists that kept going around too! Now I avoid doing them on facebook since the questions are really just things hackers use to fish for the secret questions to get into important accounts.

Yes. I've avoided those forever.
