What did you do in your childhood?

Hi Mylotters- My topic is not limited to the TV we watched ever since we get it in early '80s (TV was here before '80s too but not worth mentioning with just one channel for a limited time of two hours in the evening). In fact, I am interested in people's choice about what they loved watching or doing in their childhood. I know most of us have a good memory and we remember our TV programs and movies and other programs right from the childhood age. But here I am thinking about other things too like what toys or games you watched, advertisements you remember or anything that takes you back to your childhood days. Ah... those lovely and great days.

My cousins and I are always out at night to play hopscotch, hide and seek, patintero and etc. It was so fun!

@mlgen1037 Actually that was a colony of agricultural engineers which provided a lot of land for research and development besides large lawns and land for personal use. We still live on the outskirts of a large city with lawns and garden in three sides and a public park just in front of my house. So I still climb up the trees but not very often though!

All children did it perhaps and I can vouch for that. We used to live in a colony with only 9 houses within that campus and hectares of land at our disposal with trees, lawns and whatnot we too used to do a lot of fun things. Tree climbing was our main passion and I remember the special time when I fell off a guava tree and almost broken my knee.

@suni51 Really? I lived in the city and trees are not available much here so there was no climbing of trees except when we spend our vacations in the province. It was even more fun because we could go under the trees and eat there and play under the sun. It was something to cherish.

I used to play lots of outdoor games with my friends, go to the park nearly every Sunday and eat lots of snacks with no worry about gaining some weight. It was a stress-free life. I also remember the board games I used to play with my grandpa.

@suni51 That's right and the worst thing of all is that nowadays parents are the ones to buy or allow their children to spend countless times in front of those gadgets and become slaves of the modern technology

@Nawsheen Maybe it's easier said than done! But the reality is that most parents handover their gadgets to 2-3 or 4 years ones to keep them busy while going through their personal routine.

I think everyone did the same in last decades but gadgets have taken over the outdoor life. Children today have no care for outdoor games and some of us are responsible for that.

@suni51 We played so many games. Do you know the game L O N D O N London? The person who spells it hides her face and others move towards her but if she sees them moving they are out. There are countless others too.

I try not to think about my childhood days. I was like any other girl growing up. Nothing out of the ordinary. But I can become nostalgia about those time as I watch my grandchildren during their childhood days.

There so many plays we could enjoy without spending money. That was a wonderful time, engaged with nature. We had goats and it was our (children's) duty to feed them after school timing. As you know they will eat themselves, so by that time we got so much time to explore and enjoy by ourselves.

That must be fun! By the way did you eat any of the things provided for your goats. We remember the time when the salt and jaggery meant for bulls and cows was kept in our courtyard and we the children would take a bite or two of the jaggery and run away from there.

same here minus looking at flowers for a long time and I used to play badminton at school, college , state and national level. We did everything that children did in our time including breaking neighbor's window glasses with cricket ball and stole their fruits (despite having our own aplenty)

I did like watching TV. There were a lot of great programs in the 60's and 70's. I also spent a lot of time outside, especially in summer, when I was at the pool every day. My favorite programming growing up were westerns. I also liked a couple science fiction programs. Perhaps you've heard of Star Trek. There was also 1999.

That was perhaps far better than compared to present days' kids glued to TV, phones and whatnot with very little physical activity. Lucky people that lived that kid of life.
