This morning Mamoudou Gassama, a 22-year-old illegal immigrant from Mali, noticed people shouting in front of a building in Paris. Looking up he saw a 4-year-old boy dangling at a balcony on the fifth floor. A neighbour was holding his hands but couldn't get nearer because of a partition between the two balconies. The young Malian ran across the street, jumped up to the first balcony and then climbed up at top speed. He reached the child after 33 seconds, pulled him over the railing and led him into the flat/apartment . This heroic deed led to a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Presidential Palace who wanted to thank him personally. He was awarded a medal from the prefecture for "courage and devotion". This was not all. "Because this is an exceptional act … we are obviously, today, going to regularise all your papers, and if you wish we will start nationalisation procedures so you can become French," Mr Macron said. The President also helped him get a job with the Parisian fire-fighters. Mamoudou Gassama had arrived in Italy in the year 2014 after staying in Libya for more than a year where he was beaten and arrested and then moved on to France. Yet, his heroic deed does not affect the general problem with illegal immigration. (from the net) "The French President is toughening the nation's approach to immigration, and stressed that not all who make the treacherous journey to Europe can be welcomed, but that Mr Gassama's actions were admirable." The child had been left alone at home while his father went shopping. The man is now awaiting a hefty fine. DO WATCH THE VIDEO! --- Photo: AFP / POOL / Thibault Camus
Mamoudou Gassama has been hailed as the Spider-Man of Paris, by the mayor after he climbed unaided up the front of a building to rescue a boy who was danglin...

Incredible ! I felt dizzy just watching this video - he obviously has no problem with heights. In 33 seconds? - maybe a movie studio might use him as a stuntman.

Very touching and worth appreciation. The guy genuinely cared for a fellow human being. Right job too. He didn't give a damn about being exposed and well, he is a good person at heart.

That is truly touching but did Mamoudou really sincere in helping and not just for attention?

Everything happened so quickly that he certainly didn't consider the pros and cons of helping. His jumping onto the first balcony was a reflex. Who'd do such a crazy thing for attention? Without a rope or safety net?

@MALUSE When I hear stories such as this, the first thing that comes to my mind is that are they doing this for attention or it is genuine. But if the intention was the latter, then I guess he deserves more than that.

He deserves the award of citizenship and I am so glad that he saved that child. He is a hero and the idea that all illegal aliens are criminals is a flat out lie in every country, including the US.
