By now those of you following the posts about my recent Ghan rail trip down through the centre of Australia will realise this was quite a special trip! We travelled from Darwin to Adelaide through the outback, with daily off-train excursions.
This photo was the most unexpected activity on the trip. We were in the middle of the Kanku-Breakaways Conservation Park near the opal mining town of Coober Pedy, when the coach pulled into one of the lookouts. Here we found the most extraordinary sight - the train had laid on bubbly, wine, beer and fruit juice to add to our enjoyment of the beauty surrounding us. They were local Australian beverages of course.
I wonder, has anyone else enjoyed desert beauty in such an unusual way?

That was a very pleasant treat to have in such beautiful surroundings, and what a lovely photo!!! I had champagne in Cappadocia, Turkey at 8:00AM after a hot air balloon ride and Irish Coffee on an early morning boat ride through the peat and mussel farms in Ireland.

I have been following your journey with much interest. I have heard of Coober Pedy. It is such an excellent idea for the sightseeing coach to have pulled into one of the lookouts. There you could relax with a drink in your hand.
I went to the desert in Egypt in a horse carriage to see the pyramids. We got to sit on a camel for a few photos which was delightful. It was on the side with just local people and no tourists were there. It felt special and memorable to me. That trip was in April 2017.

That would have been such a treat. Out at the Olgas, we saw something similar although we weren't part of it. A busload of tourists were being treated to champers and nibbles in the carpark.
