Being the Initiator and a Responder in myLot

It is easier to respond than post discussions. It is also the safer option to like and respond. Don’t you agree then that we should also get paid for posting discussions? After all, they trigger the activity. Obviously, some are posting discussions rarely but seem to be doing quite well here. Of course, there is the risk of irrational exuberance when some can get carried away to post relentlessly firing on all cylinders. We need a balance to initiate discussions through our posts and also respond to others though balancing is always the tough part anywhere. When I have a deep urge to share my thoughts, sort of bursting at the seams, I post a discussion. Of course, the easy way out is to respond to others and easiest to just like! I am thinking aloud on this matter but I would choose to go with “If it ain't broke, don't fix it”. At the end of the day let us not upset the apple cart! Are you more of an initiator or a responder? I wish we did get an automatic penny or something per post since posts are the engine making myLot run but it would create a problem of even more pointless one sentence posts.

Yes, that is the real problem as there is no moderation or preapproval here. Some misuse the freedom obviously - siva

@Shiva49 Someone is definitely moderating the posts here, though, or at least perusing them for content. I have noticed that someone must be selecting some of my postings, and slotting them into the "Explore" area, under interesting discussions, for example, as a few of them end up there. If they didn't do this, I feel for sure, I would have a lot less people reading some of my posts, as they are usually written for more of a niche audience, than general.

@innertalks Mine also are in the "Interesting Discussions" at times, but not in the "Top Rated Discussions".As soon as I post they appear in the former, but they do not climb up the many steps in the latter! Then it looks like to be in the former is more to do with content. I am happy to find this platform and enjoy whatever time I have to relax and that is what really matters to me. I know it is not easy for sites to survive - siva

Nah I like this system. If we got paid just for posting discussions then the site would be full of nonsense like "What is your favorite color?" Followed up by fifty other favorite posts from the same person in a matter of minutes.

Yes, that is a fact with some playing/gaming the system. Any change would require a limit to the number of posts per day and some moderation, before or after, to keep out meaningless drivel - siva

I do a bit of both, but am trying my best to catch up with the responses to my discussions. It's not easy when online time is limited. Actually, I have to leave now.

Yes, we need both. I recall some days when I had many responses to catch up with. Now I am more into topics where responses are rather limited. So I may have more time to be an initiator! siva

Well, the easy answer is both. I find it easy to find topics to write about but can't always find time (due to other chores or interests to post. I really enjoy it when an interesting back and forth discussion happens. A couple of word response to a post is not much of an interaction, however, sometimes that is all that can be said which is probably reflective of what the person posts.

For me too, I have lots of topics to share and write about. But then I have to respond to mine as well as to others discussions. It is a trade-off and I end up responding more to others - siva

@Shiva49 Honestly speaking, I want to be both, but have ended up as a responder. To be an initiator, you need an idea, and I lack ideas.

It is easier to respond obviously. Most discussions here are noncontroversial and it is easy to respond - siva

Hi Siva. More or less I am a responder but I still post a discussion when I feel there is an urge but otherwise I wont.

Hi Louise, I too am more of a responder. I was thinking aloud that quality discussions need encouragement though I agree they do get more responses - siva

@Shiva49 A lot of quality discussions here however there are other factors to consider when responding to such. I would actually want those too but I guess people have their own preferences.

In the past the site was set up differently, and the owners found they had to sell it. When it came back it came back in the format where we earn from interaction. It seems to be sustainable, so I would not mess with it. Some people almost never post a discussion but do provoke interaction otherwise and they do as well as they want to, I guess. I post one to two discussions daily, most days. I try to comment on all responses. I do not make a ton of money but I often go past payout.

Paying for posting discussion is an invitation to serial plagiarisers. I used to be on a site which lost lots of money because not all cheats could be found out. They stole the money from honest members.

Yes, that is a real issue. However, they can limit the number of posts or even delete those that do not make the cut. The payment algorithm is not revealed to prevent some gaming the system So checks and balances can be inbuilt to suit the needs - siva

We get paid for responses to what we write, be it discussions or comments. I'm happy with that. I try to strike a balance between posting and responding. I get irritated with serial posters, honestly.

Agreed, but I feel some do not post discussions at all or very rarely. They merely respond and like. They still do well as far as I know. Quality discussions are the lifeblood of the site and need encouragement. Most do not like serial posters as it resonates with talking without listening - siva

I try to balance it. If we got paid for posting discussions, there would have to be a limit of two or three.

I suppose I'm an initiator as I try to write several posts each day if I feel I have something to say. I guess it is my way of trying to ensure I meet my personal goals on this site.

Writing is more interesting to me than responding
I myself prefer to start discussions. I think it also boils down to the amount of time needed to do both justice. Responding to others takes a certain flair, whereas writing takes a certain skill too, and the preference lies in the personality type of the writer, I would think. Yes, the site's payment methods are certainly different than other sites that I have written for before. I think too, that I would like to be paid something for my efforts at writing, but then again, if you write, and get no responses to that writing, it is largely a wasted effort, so they are paying based on the pulling power of the writing and its heading, or title I would guess. I am like you, Steve, I stick to who I am wherever I happen to be. Of course, we both do not rock the boat and are flexible enough to survive! I want satisfaction through airing my views through either discussions or responses. So there are no one-line discussions or getting others to do more work! We are two of a kind here; more interested in going to and fro than spreading our wings by commenting on whatever there are. I am thinking aloud to add some spice by inviting others too to share their views - siva
