Giving Peace a Chance

Up until recently if someone asked "Is peace between the Koreas possible?" the answer would have been no. Not maybe. Just no. Why was it not possible? Well there were tons of excuses, but reality was no one even wanted to bother trying. And now here we are. The leaders of both the North and South stood together shook hands and even hugged. Kim Jong Un gave positive statements. President Trump also gave some encouraging words, and everyone promised to try to work things out. Right now a North Korean official is meeting with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in New York. This is just the beginning. What will be the outcome? My hope is that peace can be made between the two Koreas and America. And that something could finally be done to help the people of North Korea to improve their lives. Even if NK decides they don't want anything to do with the US, peace between the two Koreas will be a historic victory. And even if nothing happens, at least someone finally tried Anything is possible to those who try.

I respect the people that try and fail over the ones that never fail, because they never try.

Better to fail doing your best than regretting that you never gave something you like a try.

Personally I don't trust the NK leader much, but you're right. At least someone tried and hopefully others will be inspired to keep trying.

I remember when we were kids at the height of the cold war the media and the rest of the government was attacking President Reagan for meeting with Mikhail Gorbachev. They said he was wasting his time, and that it would never work. They laughed and mocked him. While people at home watching on tv hoped. We didn't expect anything. We knew that we couldn't trust the Soviet Union. But we still hoped. Everyday the fear of a nuclear war breaking out suddenly was on everyone's minds. I can still remember the parades of nuclear armed missiles each country had to intimidate the other. Then they met. Nothing. They met again. Nothing. And the media dogs said "See. We told you. It's a waste of time." Then more meetings. And just when everyone had given up hope.... The cold war ended, and the wall came down. And then of course we were forced to listen to U2 songs played over and over on the radio, but that's the price of freedom.

Yes. Even without the deal the U.S. would survive. It's the citizens of NK that need this the most.

Hope is the strongest prayer, because it's done with your soul. If enough people just hope something good will happen.

Fifty years ago, many in Europe were certain they would perish in a nuclear holocaust. That was during the height of the cold war. Then the Iron Curtain was brought down; it was unthinkable before that event. Apartheid was ironclad but when it had to bite the dust. My point of view is politics and outsiders want them divided; they are one family after all. I would add if the major powers unite peace will prevail everywhere - siva
