My box cart ride in May

Today I am thinking about box carts. Back during my childhood growing up in that Merikin community I mentioned in an earlier post in Moruga, Trinidad, we children played often with box-carts which was a contraption made with scraps of wood, a ball bearing and wheels. See picture as general illustration. Photo credit Jenel Richards on Pinterest. Now, to ride the box cart, we would drag this contraption to the top of the highest hill we could find and push off and we would go flying down hill, bumping along stones and yelling and screaming until the cart coasted to a stop in the valley below when we would jump out and drag the contraption to the top of the hill again. Riding the boxcart was wild! We had these makeshift steers and there were no real pedals or breaks beside our feet so sometimes we ended up tumbling over and over and earning the most delicious bruises which we called a white man because it was a cut that would peel away so much of the top layer of skin, you would see what appeared to be white flesh before blood started to flow. When we got bruises like these we would run home screaming to our mothers who clucked and cooed behind us and lathered iodine and Gentian violet ointments across our cuts and we would whimper and limp for the rest of the evening, nursing our wounds and swear that it would be the last time we would take such a risk. We would stick to this resolve too, most of us, for one day. But then the sun would rise the next day, we would go to school and meet our friends and we would start talking about the wild rides of the day before and the temptation would be too high so by the next evening we would be back up and at it again, pulling carts to the top of the highest hill and jostling with our friends to get on board and ride, an exercise of course, that we had to engage in without the knowledge of our parents. That was a very long anecdote, I know, I wanted you to visualize it because I am thinking about box carts again today. I think that this is what the month of May was like for me- flying pell mell downhill, bumping along stones, heart racing and feeling like I could yell and scream but not wanting to do so because I am no longer a child, it would not be ladylike and it would certainly alarm my boys. This theoretical ride in May that I am referring to is my life as a freelancer. I started the month full of excitement and hope. I was going to make it! But the first week passed without any jobs and I was, I think, daunted because so many people were saying that it wasn’t possible to earn an income. I was scared. The bottom of the valley, the end of the month, was flying up to reach me quickly and I was thinking that I might have to jump off and roll around in the dirt, bruising my ego terribly before I could stand on my feet and limp back to the job market. The month of May was long for me and it was scary. In fact, I did do that job interview to try to re-enter the job market, and it was terrible. I mentioned this experience in an earlier post. Anyways, thankfully, I made it to the bottom of the hill. The end of the month is here and in May, I was able to make a small income online. I did it by freelancing and writing and exercising the muscles in my fingers. Do fingers have muscles, you ask? Aaah! Let's not quibble over those details, you get my point. I’ve made it to the end of the month. Thankfully. I’m in the valley, and I'm getting off that cart and preparing to push to the top again. I am building and hope to launch my website in June, and in this month, I also hope to explore investments. How was your month online myLot? Whether seeking active or passive incomes, did you meet your targets online this month?

@mlgen1037 I know right? Childhood is usually such an idyllic time... except we don't know it as kids.
