What did you took in college? Is it relevant to your profession now?

I'm incoming college this August, but I'm still undecided what course to take in. I took an exam for Accountancy but sadly I failed, so I'm planning to retake, but this time, in different course. Although my parents didn't say any hateful comments, I can still feel their disappointments. I just hope that I'll pass. How did you know what profession you want to take when you were applying for college. Is there someone out there that has same experience as I have.

I studied to become an interpreter. After one year I realised that this wasn't for me. So I changed course. I studied to be a teacher and I became a teacher which was the right choice. Don't you have people in your country who can help you find out what you're good at and interested in and advise you which subject to study? In Germany, you can find them at job centres or also at university.

@MALUSE Oh you are a teacher! I have huge respect for teachers, they were like second parents. Thank you for informing me, I will try to find that out.

@chicnthin Basically computer things also but at most just typing jobs and lay-outing which I've learned from experience not from school. I think it is way far from my course.

I took a B Tec National Diploma in Business and Finance (Shipping and Transport) which took 2 years. I worked for a shipping company however was made redundant at a high time for unemployment. I decided to let out my cottage and work in Australia with a holiday visa. When I came home I wished to work as a primary school teacher. So I re-took a GCSE in Maths and took A Level English Literature. I am glad I got my required grades and I went to study Education with English Literature at university. It gave me qualified teacher status. I was able to teach until I became a carer for my disabled son.

I took paralegal and criminal justice. Yeah , I guess it is relevant, since I always have to be aware of copyright laws. But my work is not related to the legal field.

I have something in mind when I was about to get in to college, but since I am so stubborn in high school I loss my confidence to take the course I preferred, though my mom shows support from that time, I am too scared to choose what I want, afraid to fail. But I am glad that I took computer science, it opens a lot of doors for me ( I am not saying that big jobs with high paying salary where being offered to me --- there is none!) because it helps me a lot to get job and part time job gets me to where I am right now. I am not smart in programming, but I was able to read and understand logic and was able to create something out of that, that helps me to get a job (not the big one) and happy to discover new things having knowledge in programming and computers.

@chicnthin I got into a program where I built my classes around my internship. I wanted to be like an advocate for people that had a hard time dealing with the system. What I ended up doing was dealing with people and selling so somewhat I did what I wanted. I really do not know how to explain it better than that.
