Kids and Privacy

I've been hearing a lot lately about kids and their privacy when it comes to their cell phones, computers, bedrooms, etc. That parents 'shouldn't' be invading their privacy. Are you sh*tting me?!!!!! I don't give a rats behind if the kid is 18. If you are living under my roof and I'm paying the bills (which may include cell phones, car ins., car payments, etc); you can bet your sweet butt that I'm going to be paying attention. Why do you think so many kids are in trouble today? It's because the parents are oblivious to what their kids are feeling (suicide) or doing (drugs, illegal activities, etc) because their kids need their 'space' or 'privacy'? Then when the poop hits the fan, the parents are like, "I had no idea what was going on." Well duh!! A parent has every right to go through a kids bedroom, cell phone or computer, setting curfews and RULES. If they don't like it, well too dang bad. You are the parent. Do something.

I fully agree with you, I had no "privacy" when I was under 18 and lived under the roof of my parents and they paid for everything.

@nanette64 They have lost the sense of "reality", they all live like in a video game. They cannot understand what is important in life, they care of nothing.

@LadyDuck That is a perfect point (reality). I think that's where a lot of the school shootings are coming from too,

Privacy of kids is important but keeping a check on them so that they don't go on wrong path is parents" duty.

Oh trust me @anamika161088 , if kids think they can get away with something, they'll do it. Kids are massive manipulators and it starts at a very young age.

@nanette64 Yeah I know. We can't chase their imagination. They roll in the world full of fantasies and they are unstoppable.

I feel the same way about my children. You will get your space when you are old enough to pay for it and responsible enough to handle it! Until then I check every single thing at any time...for my children's safety. Their lives are more important than their "privacy".

Totaly agree. I think half the problem is that some parents want to be 'best friends' with their kids. Responsible parents can not expect to be continually perceived as 'best friends' by their children.

@galaxy2017 Children need guidelines and someone to set limits to their behaviour.

Hi Nanette. Oh that is true. I guess parents are short of discipline nowadays and children are spoiled that they think they are entitled to everything.

Oh exactly @mlgen1037 . I was on a plane 3 years ago and across the aisle from me was a Dad & son. The kid was on an Ipad. The pilot said to shut all electronics down. When the Dad took the Ipad away from the kid, he threw a fit and started screaming, kicking the seat in front of him and started hitting his Dad. Do you know how old that kid was?????? 4 Imagine what he'll be like at age 10.

@nanette64 Really? I think the father had to teach his son a lesson or two or else he will have more problems than he asks for.

My mom always said "If you live in my house and are forty, I will spank you if you need it." Course that was way long before cell phones, etc.

Privacy is for adults and I'm not talking chronological age, if a kid at 18 or older still lives with their folks and is actually working for a living and contributing to the household then a that person is an adult deserving of being given the respect of privacy but if the kid is a freeloader and is always expecting to be supported then nope, they don't deserve that kind of respect. I never had any privacy, mom always looked through my things to make sure I wasn't getting into any kind of trouble and I'm probably lucky for that.

@nanette64 kids need rules and love to grow up and become people with a good heart, otherwise, they will be just selfish and think they are the center of the world.

@nanette64 To parents like you I say: IF There's a million like button out there; I would give it to you a million times. This is why the modern generation is in such a state as too often parents fail to exercise their sacred duty to enforce proper parenting. If you have to pay for it; then by George, you will set the boundaries for usage.

@notewise777 I think it was because my childhood was so screwed up. I wasn't about to let the things that happened to me, happen to my kids.

Why thank you so much @notewise777 . What's kinda funny is that my daughter who is now 47, still calls me to ask for advice and information and knows she can tell me anything. Her daughter is 27 (raised right) and 'she' even calls me for advice.

@nanette64 It says a lot about your parenting ma'am. You had to have done something right in the past if the bond can remain that strong.
