2 more weeks of work

It just. . . keeps. . . going. . . on. . . Of course I am very happy to have a job and to have the one that I have. I am paid well and have excellent benefits. It is always just tough to get through the month of June until that last day of work. Luckily I only have 1 more day of lecture and then that is it. It will be filling time from there on out. I usually show "Jurassic Park" at the end of the year but one girl was complaining that it was boring. I'm pretty sure that she has never seen it before. That movie really does stand up even after 20 years. I also used to show "Outbreak" but I just showed "Contagion" which is the same idea so I'm not repeating. "Temple Grandin" is another one that they always love but I showed that earlier in the year when they were doing testing and we weren't allowed to "teach". (isn't that nuts?) So if anyone has any good ideas for biology-related movies (preferably more current), hit me up. If not, the kiddos will be watching Jurassic Park and then probably Food Inc.

I can't think of anything at the moment. School ends for the kids in our county on June 13th, atleast according to my friend's niece. I remember being in school, the year ended in May and began at the beginning of August.

We are a very big tourist area so we don't go back until after Labor Day when the "official" summer ends. That way the kids who work as lifeguards, badge checkers, stand workers, ride workers, waitresses/waiters, etc. all are available for cheap labor. We start 1st week of Sept and end in June sometime, depending on snow and how many days off we have for other reasons.

@NJChicaa I am sure that makes the kids happy as they get a lot of holidays during the "ber" months regardless of whether school has to be closed for weather.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I don't think so. I think they'd rather get out earlier.

Lorenzo's Oil is a good one. Supersize Me is another good teaching film, although McDonald's has changed their menu significantly since that film was made.

I haven't seen that one yet. Another teacher shows it though. Good idea.

My favorite movie of ALL times is Gattaca, not sure if that fits what you're looking for but when I was in High School I was fascinated by that movie.

@NJChicaa More to me than most realize, I can love Jesus and science! Yes I love that movie. It's all about DNA, Cells, Genetics and a huge dream that comes true!

Some of the teachers show it but I've never seen it. It sounds kind of like a Brave New World type of thing. Maybe I'll show that! Thank you for the suggestion. Very interesting that you love that type of subject matter.

Is this because of all those weather canceled days? Now you have to make them up?
