It Didn't Take So Long This Time!

For what seemed like ages and eons all I heard every Kentucky Derby time was how "there hasn't been a Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978." That's a lifetime for some! To put it into personal perspective, I was 18 when Affirmed won the Triple Crown. The next time it happened in horse racing I was 55. That was American Pharoah, that great horse with the misspelled name that won America's heart and broke the "no Triple Crown" drought. Today (6/9) we got our lucky 13th Triple Crown winner when Justify went wire-to-wire to win the Belmont Stakes. It didn't take so long this time between Triple Crown winners! I hope the Cubs have the same success when it comes to World Series championships. Congratulations to Justify, jockey Gary Smith (the oldest Triple Crown-winning jockey), trainer Bob Baffert, and everyone involved in a dominant Triple Crown victory!!! Yea! "Big Money" Mike Smith does it with an impressive thoroughbred in Justified. Perfect horse name too! Before Affirmed in 1978 it was Seattle Slew in 1977. The Affirmed-Alydar matchup was a terrific series. Against any other field Alydar might have won the triple crown. Great for racing and well earned by Justified
