Wilderness Challenge

That's the name of the book I'm currently working on while I wait for my friend to finish proofing Thread of Evidence that I hope to publish yet this year. The premise of Wilderness Challenge was to get away from everything and everybody. It was a time in my life when people were at their rudest, and I just wanted to get away, as far away as I could from everyone and not be hurt anymore by people's crude remarks and actions. Thus, Wilderness Challenge was born. It's about a young woman who is strong in her faith, but finds rude remarks about her and her faith, from everyone and decides it's better to live a solitary life than to be around hateful people all the time. Her best friend is her dog. A challenge is put forth to her by her employer, who has sought out a government grant on the study of isolation. Factors entered into the grant is the ranger station near where she would be living, and the fact she would still be responsible for her work, which would be brought to her. So begins her life in isolation, but not before she goes through rigorous survival training, and is certified capable of using a rifle to hunt game so she can eat, and live where she is going. Her employer also required she keep a journal of her year long journey in isolation. She has many things to overcome, and learn, as well as come face to face with her past and why she prefers the solitary life, and that it just might not be the best thing as everyone needs someone they can rely on. This is a finished novel, started in the late 90's and finished in 2001. I remember coming to the end of the novel when I heard the news of the attack of 9/11. So, this one has been on my shelf of novels to publish for quite some time. I haven't categorized this one, but I'm going to guess it falls in the romance genre, but I would not call it a romance. Her number one must is trusting people. Here is another picture of the cabin. It's the same cabin, just a different perspective. Picture courtesy of Pixabay. Thanks for reading.

Yes, it will, but not this year, probably next. I'm working on getting two published this year. Thread of Evidence, currently being proofed by my friend, and Destination Love. If I can get those two published, I'll be happy and work towards publishing Wilderness Challenge for next year.

It is a very interesting book and I think that your personal experience is an important factor to make it more real. Let us know when it will be published.

@just4him I know you never went into isolation, but I remember you wrote about how people (even your close family) treated you.

I'll do that, but most likely not until next year. The only personal experience in this novel is how people treated me. I never went into isolation, but I thought about it.

@LadyDuck Yes, we were a very dysfunctional family. We get along better now. However, these were people I worked with at the time I was writing this book.

It sounds really interesting except for the religion part. That is what would keep me from reading it.

We use to watch a lot of tv about people that had the nerve to live like that. I for one am sure I couldn't do it. It's probably a really good book. A lot of people are doing that.

Next and what I'm working on is the editing and revision. It usually takes a few edits before I'm completely satisfied with it. Once I'm happy with the edit and revision, then it's time to start the publishing process. That also includes a final edit of the manuscript, and then it's ready to go live as a novel.

this is a wonderful synopsis of the story. may i ask why will you categorize the book as romance? is there a 'leading man'?

There is a leading man, a ranger. It's the only category it fits, though I don't see it as a romance. I could be wrong. It isn't the first time I've had trouble placing my book into a specific genre. I'm an out of the box writer.
