Do Filipinos need Federalism and Change in Government or Do We Need to Change Ourselves for the Better First?

So we just had our Independence Day 2 days ago and it's timely that my alma mater has come up with an important forum to look into what is happening and what can happen to our country in the future. I know there are many Filipinos here too but even non-Filipinos can answer. Please watch this Facebook video first so you will know what I am talking about. This is important to watch because we are the ones who can change our country so it will not be left behind by others. We are even being bullied by China and what can we do? What do we do? Do you think we Filipinos need charter change and Federalism or is it more important that we ourselves change first? What do we need to do first, personally or on our own? First of all I am an advocate of not throwing trash even candy wrappers anywhere. If I see someone doing that if I know them, I tell them there's a trash can here or there and to use it. It's a simple thing and yet some people cannot do it. When someone cuts in line of someone I speak up. We are all in a line so everyone should respect each other. But one person cannot do everything on their own. One government, one leader cannot change a whole country. So, what do you think should we do and change?

Hi Owstalaga. I like Federalism but I think it is better if we have the discipline within ourselves to change because without that discipline, we will never change. We Filipinos crave for democracy and freedom but we never do our responsibilities.

@owstalaga I won't be able to watch this video because, Facebook is inactive in china, I just based my thoughts by just reading your discussion. I am a Filipino too, so I understand where your concerns coming from and I admire you for creating this discussion that every Filipino must pay attention. In my opinion, yes, charter change and federalism are maybe both sounds better but, I must say every individual should have a self -discipline, first of all, change starts with ourselves.I'm sure, we all know how "DOMINO" works. Ourselves is the DOMINO tile which first in the line, if we tipped, all would fall down and create a beautiful result but on the other hand and facing the reality ,if we fall short by complying with our duty as an individual, even our county was arranged in such pattern and it took many time, yet take short time to fall down. I suggest that we, Filipinos have a little concern and initiative.

Omg, Facebook is not allowed in China? Wth. You can use proxies maybe? Damn. So that's why they don't have a clue what's going on in the world maybe? But I have a former office mate who could use Facebook from time to time when he went there... True. If we have better self-discipline then we wouldn't be having an issue about leadership and corruption.

Both government and us Filipino people should change. It is important to have a good leader but is is also important to have good followers, and from what I see, most of us are not following the rules and the law here in our country.

Yeah, we always find ways to go around laws and rules, whenever we can. Even if it is for the good of our country as long as we do things easier. Tsktsk. As simple as returning something that is not ours or bringing it to the lost and found or barangay is beginning to disappear I think. Whew. There are still honest people but I long for the day our country will be better than it is today.

@owstalaga One more problem I see is that, people always complain about how the government work for our country but then fail to cooperate on how to improve themselves by being a good citizen. Like for example by simply throwing garbage , traffic rules.

Yes indeed! The next question would be what can we do for our country, even if it is small.
