Don't We Need An Enemy to Feel Powerful?

Do we need someone to punch ? In our private as well as public life, do we need an enemy to use our muscle power or lung power to feel strong? I wonder if there was no opposition party who would Prime Minister Modi hit at, in and outside the Parliament? If there was no inimical neighbor on whom would the government have surgical strikes, verbal or otherwise? All the rhetoric and oratory will have lost the fuel that drives them if there is no entity to bombard. The protagonist's valor shines out when he fights the villain. So, at the end of the day, don't we need a punch bag to hit at?

I think I feel more powerful when I give, and give to the right person. My maid is to attend a marriage this month end. We have rainy season as you know. She only wears and has cotton sarees. I felt that would not do. But I couldn't think of a solution for a long time. Finally, I mustered up courage, and approached my neighbor, who is only 7 years older than me. I asked her, if you have nice old sarees that you are bored of, and don't know what to do about it, will you be willing to sell them? I haven't a clue about material online. She said ok...and pulled out about five sarees and said you chose any. I chose one, paid her the cost she felt was reasonable and we gave it to the maid. She has been so happy...never seen her so happy in the last 8 years.
