Technology and magnets

I heard years ago to keep magnets away from my computer because it could wipe out my data (or something like that) so I never put any magnet near my computer. Fast forward to today when my daughter had trouble getting this dash mount off her car her ex-boyfriend had installed and told me I could have it if I can get it off. I couldn't, but my son was able to and then she showed me how it worked. I attach this magnet to the piece and then the magnet holds my phone. (I have attached a link to the brand name of this mount, the round piece looks like what I have, except it doesn't have a clip, it attaches to the other piece. I didn't use it, but my son brought it to my attention about technology and magnets. Obviously, this has to be safe for my phone, but I would like more info, like how is this magnet different or was the info about magnets wiping out data a myth?

Hi, I had not seen you since a long time. A magnet can wipe the data on an old floppy or a traditional hard disk, but not on the cards we put inside phones or SSD storage devices. The reason is that the data on these last devices are stored on MOS transistors insensible to magnetic fields, so a magnetic phone or tablet holder is safe.

Thanks @topffer, and yes it has been a while. I stop in sometimes to see what is going on, but mostly I'm busy with life and it isn't my writing, which is sad.

I still remember being cautioned about magnets and those reel tapes we used to use to store data on in the 1970s but I figure by now most gadgets have been developed to not have any issues with magnets.

It seems this was years ago, but today it's okay. @topffer explains it in his comment.
