It Was All Good, Sorta

Yesterday was mine and Tony`s dental appointments, I had made arrangements for both of us to have our teeth cleaned the same day, remember when they cancelled on me the same day I was to come in last week? Anyways its easier because I do drive to another city for this too. Well, the new dental hygienist looks like Sarah Palin and is very nice, this is the second time she has cleaned my teeth. She is good at her job but she is rough! She will floss my teeth as soon as I sit down, although I just did it before coming there, she is not gentle at all, I tasted blood but did not say anything. Then she announced she would use the water scraper thing, that I hate but I went with it because I know it would be faster. I have a couple sensitive teeth front bottom and I tell any of the right away, no cold water. That did mean she would have to use the old way on those and she did. I keep my teeth up, I brush several times daily and its rare I skip a flossing, so I am usually in and out fast. The dentist came in afterwards to check mt teeth and he smelled fabulous! the kind of good where you just want to give a big hug and inhale...Okay back to the teeth, he was slow and looked at each tooth, I am good without cavities but he put a watch on an old filling. I asked what the problem was because it was in dental talk, he told me that sometimes the old fillings have to be replaced if they tilt but its alright for now. I havn`t heard of this but I learn something everyday. For me it was in and out in 30 minutes. Next was Tony, his last cleaning was almost a year ago, he had to cancel the last one due to radiation treatments, he was back there an hour. But I did prepare the lady for him about his breathing or coughing and may have to sit him up, she was happy I did. Although I did not hear one cough and that was good. He has no cavities but to much build up and was told floss or loose`em. While he was back I thought I would be able to get into a new book but NOOOOOO. School is out so the kids come with the moms, each one had 3. The first set were poorer kids, I could tell by there clothes and hair, one bumped this huge poster in the corner, it fell and fell apart, the child was mortified! The mom had to get in the floor and put it back together while fighting a baby, crawler, I watched and when I seen the baby was about to get some chunk of frame, I got it before he could. Mr. Big came out and took the mess away, the child sat by me and stiffened each time she seen him. I called his name and he stopped, I said " This little lady feels bad about the picture frame, I told her it was okay that you are going to fix it," he shook his head and said " That`s right I will fix it, its okay." Then all those kids were my friend and all over me When they left another mom came in. She had more, the kids dressed nice, kids hair perfect, but no matter how much money any of the kids come from they all loved that train track that we can see from the dental office. Except these kids ran around and around the office screaming, chasing and playing, the mom with her face buried into her phone and rarely asked them to quieten down. Seems one set of kids had better manners. I better get to reading your discussions, this one is getting long! Have a wonderful Friday.

I haven't been the to dentist in many years. I remember once when I was a child I went into the dentist and the hygientist had hurt me. made my gum bleed, I don't recall quite how. I cussed, I don't remember what word I used but it doesn't matter, at that age I wasn't supposed to do it. I got mad at her and I pretty much told her off. She left the room and told my mom and grandmother. I got in trouble, I explained why I did it (in similar terms but without cussing) and I still got in trouble. It's not polite to tell people just what you think of them. I'm 30 now and I think I've finally realized this. (I've realized it for a long time, I'm just kidding. Back to remembering times as kid. We would get threatened to have our butt spanked if we were loud and rambunctious in a doctor's office. I was more prone to sit and think, I preferred that anyway. When I was way smaller I remember playing with the toys at the doctor's office. I've seen a lot of kids out in public with parents who are too preocupied with their phones to do anything about the kid. it's sad.

They should be given tickets. Ignoring their children.

This reminds me, I need to reschedule an appointment with my dentist that I cancelled back in February or March (around the time I broke my ankle, I think.) I just haven't felt like it because I don't particularly enjoy the dentist. I hate when kids run around screaming and their parents sit there ignoring them...seems to be a lot of that going on nowadays.

@andriaperry My teeth were pretty good at my last checkup, but my dentist wanted to replace a filling because I still get pain in that tooth. I have nightmares about losing all my teeth! I would have been spanked too...seems like some parents don't believe in disciplining their kids at all these days.

Get those cleaned! no teeth is not attractive. Yeah, if I would have been running around like that I would have been spanked.

@just4him I think people who love to write, or like me will get to it one day, see things others may not. While would have seen the kid knocked over that poster, I seen it was an accident and how stiff she went, the horror in her eyes and face.

I know it will be time for a cleaning soon. I have one more extraction. Mostly what has happened is I had a bunch of bridges and crowns and there got to be some decay under them. I hate out of control children. I am glad you helped get that little one's feelings soothed.

Negligent parents seem to cross the entire financial spectrum. I would have thought the office person would have asked the mom to quiet them down.

What a contrast in child rearing you witnessed there. It was nice of you to talk to Mr. Big for that child.

Glad you and Tony had your teeth cleaned and checked. I go twice a year and am done until for 5 more months. It's the fault of the parents who don't teach their kids how to behave.

Hello Andria. I love going to the dentist and have my teeth cleaned and checked. I think, some parents do not give time to teach their children some manners. Money cannot indeed buy those.

Money and manners don't always go together, do they? It is amazing how some children behave and the parents ignore what is happening.

Glad your check up was good. Radiation and chemo can be hard on the teeth so I hope Tony listens to the dentist as he is at higher risk now. Sad to hear about how Mom was with the second set of kids. It shows what is wrong in the world now.

Oh! You should go at least once a year. Your teeth are your health. Look into local dental clinics or schools not just dental offices, because they are much cheaper and you get the same things done, just without the cost. I got mine cleaned, x-rays and the dentist checked them all for $45!
