It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!

I am a Downtown sort of fellow. I would rather hang out Downtown Anywhere than in the outskirts and suburbs. Yesterday, as I walked around Downtown Colorado Springs, I took a few pictures, including one that is fairly new to us: The Great Pumpkin. Linus Van Pelt would lose his mind if he came across this huge, mosaic pumpkin. The Great Pumpkin was created by Concrete Couch, a Colorado Springs-based collective of community-minded "artists, teachers, builders, optimists, pragmatists, environmentalists, super heroes, and the odd dramatist." Concrete Couch's projects are created with community involvement in mind, and work closely with schools, "all kinds of people," community groups, military families (Colorado Springs is a huge military city,) local sports teams, juvenile offenders, senior citizens, and differently-abled adults. As for the Great Pumpkin, he is 10 feet by 10 feet and weighs 1500 pounds. The mighty sculpture was prominently displayed at a major, busy Downtown area during our city's annual Pumpkin Fest celebration, then moved to it's current location in a part of Downtown that was, sadly, in desperate need of some art. Pretty cool, isn't it! I've tried to link to both the Concrete Couch website and their Facebook page. MyLot isn't accepting either, apparently. (Info verified by Wikipedia, the Colorado Springs Gazette)

I like the city areas better myself. The suburbs or the outskirts are not for me. And that Pumpkin is amazing. I like the idea of community getting together to make something as wonderful as that. More people need to come together for many other things in this world.

There is a farm here, Venetucci Farm, that pretty much exclusively grows pumpkins. It's a big deal around here. Last I heard, it was going to close, but the local citizenry is doing what they can to try to keep it going. Every year, a local brewery makes a big batch of Venetucci Pumpkin Ale. It usually sells out the first day. Guys line up at the liquor store very early to get some.

@JamesHxstatic - I've had others. They are quite good. Usually a micro brew that comes in a bomber are the best
