Do you want cheap coffee? Be polite!

A Danish coffee shop has introduced a new idea. When you buy coffee the price depends on the way you to speak to the barista. The actual prices are in kroner, but I have converted them to dollars. If you say ”A cup of coffee” your coffee costs 5 dollars. If you say ”A cup of coffee, please” your coffee costs 4 dollars. If you say ”A cup of coffee, please. Your coffee is amazing” your coffee costs 3 dollars. A sign contains the sentences and the prices. I read an interview with the owner and she said that most customers react in a positive way when they see the sign. One of the customers got angry though. She went into the coffee shop and said ”I want a cup of coffee and I am only going to pay 3 dollars” The barista said ”When you speak like that, your coffee costs 5 dollars.” The woman slammed the door and never came back. How would you react if you saw that kind of sign outside a coffee shop?

"I want a coffee please, I will let you know after I had it if it's amazing". How can I make a statement before trying the coffee? May be it tastes horrible.

Option number 3 makes sense if you have bought coffee there before, but if it is your first time you don't know what the coffee is like, that is true. I wonder how they would react if you said that sentence.

@LadyDuck It could be interesting to visit the place and say: "A cup of coffee, please. I hope your coffee is amazing" and watch their reaction...

@Porcospino I would be curious, my question is polite, imposing to say that it is "amazing" before you tried is rude.

Drinking coffee at home is the cheapest option. I do both. I make my own coffee and home and buy coffee in coffee shops when I am away from my home.

If we buy many cups of coffee $3 instead of $5 would make a big difference.

I think that is just cool and unique. A cup of coffee just simply means to have a good day rather than be a negative person. Though I am not a coffee drinker.

Yes, this is a unique idea. I think that the owner hopes that people will be more polite that way, and most of the reactions have been positive.

@Porcospino that is true. It does not cost too much to be polite. I guess others just have to pay a higher price to get that.

Why not ask for a coffee politely. You save money and you earn a smile

Number 3 sounds like the best option to me. I drink a lot of coffee so $3 instead of $5 sounds great. I try to be polite anyway.

I read an interview with the owner and it sounds like most people reacted in a positive way and saved money by being polite, but one woman got angry and left without coffee.
