An oil change on average costs around 45 dollars

An older vehicle like ours, that being a 1995 Seville SLS 4.6L V8 automatic sedan, and providing only an oil filter, bought separately for about 8 dollars at an AutoZone for an AC Delco. The price to get the auto shop to provide the oil and do the change was 45.00 even. If we had bought the oil our selves, that being 7 quarts of oil, the price of the oil change would be around 20 or some odd dollars. Then if we paid for the oil change using our own oil, the cost would have actually been higher. As a 5 quart container of Penzoil SAE 10 W 30 in the yellow bottle costs about 18 dollars more or less, plus sales tax, then we would have had to buy an additional 2 quarts, and if we only bought 2 extra quarts to make the total number of quarts to put in our car to be 7 quarts, the cost of individual oil in a quart bottle is substantially higher per unit price. So having bought only an oil filter and paying the mechanic at the shop to just use their SHOP OIL, and pay 45.00 for the oil change totally, is better than paying for our own oil and paying them for the labor only. The only less expensive measure I know of is to change the oil myself. That would require I put the car on a lift, or use a hydraulic jack and jack stands, get a large oil pan to drain the old oil into, pay for the oil and oil filter and get the tools I need to remove the oil filter and then remove the oil pan plug and so forth as well as the time and effort. I am willing to pay 45.00 to have someone at a shop do it because they already have the oil, the lift, the tools and they got it done there at the shop in just under 15 minutes. The average price for an oil change is about 45.00 dollars on a National scale.
The average price of an oil change can vary depending on location. Angie's List talked to mechanics across the U.S. to find the average price of an oil change.

Caring for a vehicle is very expensive, depending what you need ... I think here in my neighborhood (BC, Canada) it costs about $39 for an oil change.

Totally agree. Just had my oil and filter changed by a mechanic at one of those oil change places. $39.99 plus tax and that included the filter and oil. They even flushed all the old oil out before adding new. Can't beat that with a stick.

$39.99 plus tax including filter and oil and labor right? Not a bad deal at all. If we were living in the times before oil prices went skyrocketing, the price of an oil change would in fact be far cheaper. But that price is below the national average actually.
