How often do you buy fresh vegetables?

On the way back from Grass Valley this past weekend, I stopped at one of those fresh vegetable stands out in farm country. They had artichokes, squash, and other standard California veggies, but I was most impressed with the blackberries, so I bought some to munch on for the rest of the trip home.
In the United States, I'd bet that most of us get most of our veggies from the grocery store. I grocery shop maybe twice a week, and the quality of the onions, garlic, apples, tomatoes, and bananas is good, but it's probably not the same as visiting the open market on the day you're going to cook something.
Where you live, how often do you buy truly fresh vegetables (and fruit)? Does it come from a "store"? Or an open market of some kind? I'll attach a picture of the view from the stand I visited. You can see the highway (Interstate 80) in the background, but I wanted to feature the old John Deere farm equipment. I want to call it a "combine," but I'm not sure what it is. Anybody know?

Yes, I think it's a combine. I usually buy my fruits from a grocery store and my veggies from an open market. Twice a week, but it depends. My parents have all kind of veggies and fruits too, they live on the countryside, but I see them once every two months... When I was a little boy I used to go in the garden and eat tomatoes right from the plant. Now I can't do that, first I must wash away all those pesticides and insecticides. 30 years ago we were not using them

There are a few dairy farms somewhere on the outskirts and some pecan groves but mostly I see alfalfa or hay or cotton fields @TheHorse but farther north in NM there are a few farms that grow organic foods but unfortunately they sell to a store that is at least 30 miles north of me.

Do they still taste pretty good? The veggies I get from Trader Joe's are good, but as @garymarsh6 pointed out, there's always the possibility that they add chemicals to make them stay fresh longer.

We usually buy vegetables from the the vegetable vendor who comes 2 times in one week to our society. His vegetables are fresh only.

Hi Colin. My mom buys when needed. There is this guy who brings vegetables using his cart every morning. And it is really cheap.

@TheHorse It is a pushcast with just small wheels under and made of wood. He walks everyday with his pushcart.

@lnillerman Here, yes. But there are those who upgraded to having a motorcycle attached to the cart.

We probably buy fresh vegetables and fruit twice a week. It is nice to buy them from farm shops rather than supermarkets who sometimes irradiate the fruit and veg to keep it fresh longer. whereas from the farm you need to use it pretty much as soon as you buy it. .

Combine is right.
We go to the farmers' market at least once each week and buy almost all of our fresh greens and other veggies. They are much better than the store variety.

@JamesHxstatic Some of the stuff I've gotten at TJs had a "chicken" taste. Could they have been using too much chicken waste as fertilizer? I dunno.

I have not seen a farmers market here yet so I get the from the store and I will tell you, they don't last very long whether they are in the refrigerator or not. At our old home we had farmers market but they wanted so much more then the grocery store that no one could afford them

@saritflor Sounds good to me. Are there plenty of black olives there, as well as green? I love the former, but don't like the latter that much.

Not near a farmer's market. But we can buy some from growers where we live. They have signs up.

When I lived in West Allis, Wisconsin I used to go to the farmer's market quite often. There's a local store where I live now in Illinois that sells fresh produce from local farmers. I go there quite a lot. I like the freshness of the produce but also like to help out the local farmers and a local business. I tend to buy fresh produce quite a lot more these days since I have to watch my salt. I keep frozen on hand, but nothing beats fresh.

I buy it in the market. Veggies and fruits not in grocery stores. They are cheaper and the best you may say coz the owners the ones selling it. They have their own stalls in the market for fresh veggies and fruits.
