Empty Panga Boats Left on California Shores

With the immigration crackdown along the southern border of the US, people have simply found a new way to slip into our country, and it is much more difficult to prevent. Instead of walking into our country through the desert, where our leaders have proposed building a wall, a series of empty panga boats are being left along the shores of Southern California. By the time the boats are discovered, the occupants have disappeared. The photo above shows a photo of one which was found at Crystal Cove in Laguna Beach a couple of days ago. Another one was found today. Crystal Cove is one of the beaches where I sometimes walk with friends. I guess this just shows that we may need to approach immigration to our country in a different way. Building a wall certainly isn't going to change anything. At the same time, I do think we should know who is living in our country and where they are living. Perhaps the guest worker plan which was proposed by former Republican President George W. Bush, along with offering international driver's licenses and requiring that all residents pay into Social Security, Medicare and health insurance plans would be a more effective way to deal with people migrating here. At the very least, we need to address these issues in a more creative, humane and intelligent way which explores all the possible options.

I totally agree with your final sentence. Humane is such a hard concept for some folks to grasp and embrace.

@sallypup - It is truly sad that it is hard for some folks to understand the concept of being humane. What they are doing with these parents and children does not make us safer.

@sallypup - Even though they said they were going to reverse the law tearing children from their parents, absolutely nothing has been done so far to reunite these families. What about the 1900 children the government admits they have lost track of? It is a terrible situation and will not be resolved easily.

A wall is a waste of money as this shows. There are very few people here who are true natives. The majority are at least descended from immigrants. Yes there is a better way, it is just figuring it out and implementing it. You have some good suggestions.

@wolfgirl569 - I agree that a wall is a waste of money. We already have fences in the areas where it is easy to cross the border. People who are willing to take big risks will find a way, whether there is a wall or not. I agree that we need to find better ways to handle immigration. Taking babies from their mothers does not make us safer.

@changjiangzhibin89 - I feel sorry for them, too. Some of them are so young, they do not even know their own names. They must be terrified!

There have been so many walls which have been built over the centuries, but they only temporarily solved an immigration problem. The Berlin Wall is one example. The Great Wall of China is another. Unfortunately, the wall they want to build on our border would not be as beautiful as the Great Wall of China. It will just be an ugly wall like they might put around a jail. Ridiculous.

On the other hand, it shows that the country is attractive and people are willing to live in that country.

@caopaopao - Yes, people want to live in our country and some of them will go to any length in order to make that happen.

We certainly need to find a less barbaric way to deal with these refugees from Central American violence than this callous AG and President have.

@JamesHxstatic - I agree. Of course I agree that we need to know who is in our country and remove dangerous people. However, separating young children from their parents is barbaric and does nothing to keep people safe in our country. It is horrifying.

Hi Deborah. That I agree. People always find ways. Building that wall feels like a division and not a protection against illegal immigrants. Unless they build a wall too in the shorelines too.

@mlgen1037 - Can you imagine how awful and ugly it would be to have a wall on all our beaches? We need to find a better way to handle immigration. What they are doing now does nothing to keep us safe. It only harms people who are harmless.

@mlgen1037 - The wall is a joke. I agree we need fences in populated areas, such as between San Diego and Tijuana. However, it is a waste of money in remote areas, where they could fly over them, dig under them, or avoid them entirely by taking a boat. There are more important ways we should spend that money, such as rebuilding our own roads and bridges. Many immigrants also come here by hiding in trucks and cars. It is almost impossible to check every truck and car for people hidden inside. Half of all the illegal immigrants in the US came here with a tourist or student visa, and overstayed the end of their visa. How will a wall stop that? There are better ways to address immigration.

@DeborahDiane Yes. It is like you are controlled in every aspect. Your freedom to enjoy life is cut too. There is always a better alternative than building those walls, which I find gibberish.

@simplfred - Thank you so much. I hope it helps a few people understand that this current immigration policy is not making us safer, and may be doing terrible harm to young children.
