I don't understand art, so I don't comment.

Isn't India going to lock you up for saying Christies? I thought they took that stuff seriously.

I must admit that I am not good at interpreting the paintings. I just only appreciate looking at them.

If 90 percent don't understand, or see anything beautiful in it, and can't get much pleasure in it, then there cannot be any demand for it. And if there is no demand, how can there be a price for it unless it is a con artiste job? Simple logic.

@vandana7 You have a point. I would prefer to have paintings not from famous ones. I don't want to spend money if not knowing what's the real worth of a particular painting.

If you understand them, it is ok, you can also keep duplicate. If they are as abstract as the ones in the list I have attached, you would realize that the price is not justified, considering the limited demand.

@vandana7 I do not like abstract art and I do not like "duplicates". I have some nice paintings that we bought in France from a young French Artist. We do not hang many paintings in the house. My husband had some of my photo printed on canvas and he hang them.

Art, like most things, is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. Your firewood is someone else's masterpiece!!

@vandana7 Give it a go! There has been some frankly bizarre stuff on display in various art galleries. Case in point:-
A 16-year-old unmade bed turned into an art installation sold for $4.35 million at a Christie's art auction in London.

@WorDazza As I mentioned in a box here art should be a. Visual delight ..beautiful b. Have emotional dividends make a person happy based on content c. Keep artist away from unhappiness while creating it I can't believe those paintings qualify.

In my opinion these expensive wall paintings are the status symbol for the people who are filthy rich! Though they may not anything about the painting they pretend that they are the best judges of the paintings in the World to pay such a huge cost to have them in their drawing and bed rooms! This is a hypocrisy in my opinion! Thanks!

I once aspire myself to be a good painter. But as time goes by I realize that I could not reach this level of art.

I think that is where we go wrong. We have to accept that we are good. We might infact be better than that tornado type of expensive picture in the list I uploaded.

I love the old masters paintings especially Canaletto I would find space to put any of his paintings on our walls!

Old masters were really painstakingly developed paintings. If you look at the list I have uploaded, I wouldn't want to pay more than 10 dollars for any of them.

Me too...if I paint something, I will naturally like it, and so will my parent, and well, my kids paintings would also make sense there. Some beautiful work that is striking too. But abstract work...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Hmm... I do not know artworks either but if I like what I see, whoever made those artworks, I do appreciate them and give compliments. It hurts my mind to even think who made them (I am not so knowledgeable and I do not like to PRETEND at all). hahaha

I like Australian aborigine art..it is also abstract quite often, but it gives me pleasure to see it. Likewise, there are traditional Indian artists...village artists, willing to do the job at less than 10 dollars..why on earth would I give to somebody whose work I do not understand..which work I cannot sell easily ..because there has to be another fool to buy it....no demand how can it have value? Beats me. Why would I buy something as expensive as

@vandana7 You have your point, my friend. Sometimes, we have to consider the marketability of the artwork. A lot of people are talented but not all are selling.
