Actually these two sports are not popular in my country and I even haven't seen it in person. I just watched the softball matches from TV in the Olympics Games. I was surprised that it is no big difference between baseball. I wonder perhaps baseball is for men and softball is for women. "Softball" is a little discrimination for women and I think it should be "toughball"

To me they are the same thing. Just softball has a different size ball to "make it easier for girls" and the "difference" was a result of still sexist times.

Men play softball and have leagues so it's not associated exclusively for girls anymore. And just try to hit those pitches from girls! They can pitch some nasty stuff underhanded. Also when I was a kid, school used softballs as hardballs were considered dangerous.
