Have you ever wondered how the early Egyptians moved those huge stones to make their pyramids? I did. As a matter of fact, when I was teaching Ancient History it was my students most asked question. These stones weighed approximately 2.5 tons each. With no modern tools or gadgets it does pose a problem moving these gigantic stones. Actually these ancient beings were pretty clever. They knew they could just round up a friend or two to carry them so they invented a little system to help. They would attack a wooden sled or grouping of wooden slats to the stone and would drag them across the sand with ropes. It took eight to twelve men to accomplish this feat. Some people theorize that they used wooden logs to push the stones to their destination. For us the best part of the Ancient History was the part where we studied about the Egyptians and the pyramids. The class was always enthusiastic when we reached that time period.

There are so many theories about those pyramids, both in Egypt and South America and what's funny is that it could well be they were a whole lot smarter than we give them credit for.
A strange phone call leads Michel Barsoum to cast doubt on leading theories.

I'll have to check where I read it but several archeologists have come to the conclusion that the pyramids in Egypt were built long before the Egyptians used them as burial grounds @HazySue This story really intrigues me, apparently 2 scientists have found a sunken city complete with pyramids.
A vast underwater city with huge pyramid structures has been discovered off the coast of Cuba, amid claims that the sunken metropolis could, in fact, be the lost city of Atlantis. The submerged complex is thought to be around 200,000 years old, with the gr

Back then they had to use brain power. They didn't have the tools and machines we have. They either found a way to accomplish it or they did without. Doing without was not an option, the royalty of the day demanded it be done. So they put their heads together and figured it out.

I watch a docu series on the history channel about this very subject. It was either aliens helped or they had a lot of people helping and use a sort of sliding apparatus.

@MALUSE I didn't say I believed any of that. I was only commenting that we don't really know who built some of these structures. I in no way think they are a miracle, where did that come from? Even the Egyptians sent out their historians to discover who built the Great Sphinx. They came back empty handed, well hell, if they didn't know that means they didn't build it but someone did. I think you are reading my comments in the wrong frame of mind. I am not the one that even suggested this to begin with. But to the one that did perhaps they are completely right. Your links only point to another possible theory.

I love how we question how ancient civilizations accomplished major tasks like building pyramids, as if nothing in this world could be accomplished prior to the industrial age of machines. The answer is quite simple...those people used their brains to come up with creative ideas for accomplishing the tasks that needed accomplishing, an art we seem to be losing these days with the advent of technology.

@HazySue I think in today's world we look for machines and technology to do the work for us. That's why they were invented, so we wouldn't have to do everything manually! So, it's not necessarily looking for the easy way to do things, but the most efficient way to do things with the least amount of effort.

I think that the people of today look for the easy way to do things. People way back when did have to rely on ingenuity and good old muscle power. The kids were always so amazed by the way the pyramids were build with those gigantic stones.

if i could travel back in time, those are the things i'd like to see - how people planned and built many massive structures that are still standing today.

So would I. It's for sure that they took more care in the process of building and in the materials they used.

Have you been to Egypt? My husband and I went there twice. Even if you've read lots about the pyramids before going, you are overwhelmed when you see them.
