dark or airless?

i remember one afternoon, after our last subject, i went home with one of my classmates to spend the night at their house. i was surprised when we got to her room. there was no window. just pale blue walls and a door. we didn't sleep much because we talked a lot. this memory got me thinking. if worse comes to worst, i would prefer a dark room as long as there is at least one window that can be opened. darkness can be solved by painting everything white and keeping the light on from the moment you wake up till bedtime. whereas in a bright but windowless room, i have to keep the door open and the electric fan on all the time for the air to circulate. of course, in a sunny but humid country like mine, i would prefer the solitary window to be anywhere but the west side of the room. have you ever stayed a windowless room? would you choose light or air?

@Jessabuma so when you wake up, you have no idea what it looks like outside - if it's sunny, or cloudy, or raining?

I don't believe I have ever stayed in a room without a window. Although I was locked in a closet for six hours once.

I would choose air. It is important that I feel comfortable in a room especially a bedroom. I immediately will feel so hot when the room isn't airconditioned yet the windows are all closed. I feel suffocated by that.

In Laos I stayed in a hotel room without windows. It was a budget room, but when I made the reservation I didn't know that there weren't any windows. It was a bit strange to stay in a room without windows. I would like to have at least one window.

@hereandthere On the pictures we could only see the bed, so we didn't see the entire room. There were many problems with that room. The A/C didn't work, the toilet broke down etc. We were happy when we left that room and moved into the next one and the next one had a window

@Porcospino yeah, even pictures can be deceiving. i'm glad you were able to find a better one. what did you like best during your stay in laos?

@sol_cee thankfully, it was only from the 3rd floor doing down to the ground floor. it stopped, bounced, the lights blinked, i pressed all the buttons i could, banged on the door then sat on the floor. it was only a minute but avoided it for a while.

i can imagine windowless budget rooms, like @porcospino experienced in laos, but it's hard to imagine a windowless hotel room in the capital of sweden. you had no idea it was windowless? how many days/nights did you have to sleep in that room?

@JohnRoberts oh, my one week. but then if you're out most of the time seeing the sights and only there to sleep and shower, it's okay. you've been to many countries in europe.

i'm sorry to know you have a windowless room @justbhem. yes, i would do the same - keep the door open. i hope your room does not receive direct sunlight in the afternoon because that would make it superhot and stifling.

I will always need light and ventilation. Too scary to sleep in a windowless room. My friend's room was like that. She always had to turn on the light and the aircon. I had a tough sleepover then.

I'd prefer a room with at least one window. It's the first thing I look at everytime I wake up so I'll know if it's morning already or not and if it's raining or the sun's shining outside. And I'd choose both light and air.

yep, that's the word - suffocating. even if there's only one window and it unluckily faces a wall, i'll still be grateful for it than no window at all.
