SO this is a bit different thought, I used to have several dogs but main were -
a Pomeranian (play dog)
unknown breed (guard dog)
a Doberman (think yourself)
People always have (or mostly) dogs in their home which guard the home (although not all dogs)
Which breed of dog you perfer? WHat is your dog's breed?

I had a lab-husky. She was a great dog. Now, I have a guard cat. She sits at the dog when she hears the key go in the door and greets me. If she hears something outside she will sit by the door. I have seen those signs to warn people.

I have 3 dogs guarding our yard and 2 inside the house, they are mixed breeds or what we Filipinos call " azkal", they are good guards and alarm and not so difficult and espensive to maintain like the pure breeds that I use to keep.

Growing up our family had a guard dog named spot. A little mixed breed mutt who made lots of noise when people came to the door. So, he was an effective alarm system.

@simplfred According to the information, "askal" means "street dog" in Tagalog; however I am not sure.
Yet this is common dog in Philippines, so most of people have Askal dogs.
How they behave?

I have two English Springer Spaniels. They are just companions although the one I got most recently who is a rescue dog is very sensitive to people coming to the house. She barks like a maniac if anyone knocks at the door or even walks into the garden.

I don't have, but I know many other that do have. I think it's sad to have them outside the home when they can live inside...
