I have spoken recently of the tragedies that have befallen the sunflowers on my balcony, so I thought I'd do a happier post. The kids at the preschool have helped me transplant several of my smaller corn and sunflower starts, and have also grown some green beans from seed. The "garden" at the preschool is actually doing quite well, so I thought I'd attach a picture I took today The tallest sunflower plant is about 7 feet tall, and the corn and green beans are also doing well. The kids are proud of their work, and they enjoy helping me water the plants. I like it when they "demand" that their parents come and see our garden.

I definitely see that the corn and green beans are doing well. I'm not so familiar with sunflowers.

They're the tallest ones. I've attached them to the fence with yarn.

@NJChicaa Not really. The ones with strong "stems" survive.

It's good that the kids are taking 'ownership' of 'their' garden. 7 feet tall sounds pretty good. The kids would be impressed with it.

"Ownership" is a good word. It's so cute when we "harvest" a single snow pea or green bean and I have to cut it into 8 or 10 pieces. Hopefully we'll have a good green bean harvest. I see some flowers starting to develop.

@TheHorse There wouldn't be much left after 8 or 10 cuts! I hope the beans manage to produce a few more.

I think they're proud of their work. I tech them the value of "Community" by reminding them that once the plants are in the ground, they're "all of ours."
